The people behind #CommunicationRights are not obstructionist behaviorists. @NeuroClastic has speech language pathologists, psychologists, educators, OTs, MTs, researchers, neuroscientists, & nonspeakers who communicate through AAC, spelling, & sign. #ActuallyAutistic #Autism
These people may have an aggressive approach to bullying autistics & our allies out of our own narratives & using their white (that's all white people) privilege to maintain the #monopoly on #Autism, but they are NOT allies. They are #oppressors. We can and do communicate. See?
We have orgs, individuals, & initiatives championing #CommunicationRights. @U4CommChoice @Communica1st @ekverstania @autselfadvocacy @awnnetwork_ @ReachEveryVoice and so many more. It's 2020, and we are #nonCompliant with a #Behaviorist agenda that parades itself as #science.

Just listened to this podcast & it moved me to tears. I recommend #zebras, those with #complexconditions as well as those w #pain listen. My daughter has been deemed a ‘difficult’ #patient a #noncompliant #patient. Her chart is filled w truly notes that leave #physicians & 1/
other medical professionals biased. In a sense she was ‘difficult’ but 4 good reason. She had been dx at age 1 & had so many failed treatments & procedures. Her #voice often was dismissed bc she was young. As parents our voices were dismissed bc we were parents. 2/
With each failed procedure, with each dismissive action by #physicians she bc more difficult. Add in that she also had pain w her condition. And she knew what worked & this seen as ‘seeking drugs’. She also had a few irregular drug tests - which caused pain meds 3/

Top Ten Reasons Adults without Autism Deserve AMA (Applied Misbehavior Analysis)

1. ABA is a marketing campaign built around controlling behaviors. It stifles freedom of thoughts and removes autonomy, innovation, self-determination, and creativity.
2. AMA seeks to validate each person's individual strengths, accommodate their disabilities, and provide for them a set of circumstances wherein they can thrive to meet their full potential.
3. ABA reinforces behaviors undertaken in the interest of "social consequence." Those social norms go unquestioned and maintain the status quo. The status quo maintains dominant power structures and keeps minority populations marginalized.

I think the new disabled people’s hashtag vis-a-vis the medical system, and especially re: disbelief and misdiagnosis of women/POC/LGBTQ should be #noncompliant
Because it’s only by being #noncompliant that so many of us were able to find accurate diagnosis, avoid “care” that might cause us harm, and find treatment that actually fit the bill.
Because it’s in the moments that, in the face of great pressure (and often against my better judgment), I did comply with the standard of care, I ended up in the three worst medical crises of my life #noncompliant

I'm obsessed right now w/ inventive page design in comics—artists breaking free from a traditional panel layout.
Examples from SWAMP THING #34—"Rite of Spring" by @SRBissette and John Totleben.
A splash page from X-MEN by Dave Cockrum. Have they ever looked cooler/more exciting?
