As a 5-year veteran of Atlantic hurricane watching, I believe the message in this video is vital for EVERY American.

For both natural & human-made reasons, the 2022 season will be worse than normal.

EVERYWHERE in the US.

#PrepareNOW
#HWStormWatch

The disaster readiness messages in the above video are pertinent to people anywhere in the world, too.

There are always people who don't prepare well enough, often because they don't realize how severely a natural disaster can affect them. They rely on others to save them.
This is not a good idea anytime, but especially in the US right now.

We do have a responsibility to think of and offer help to our neighbors as best we can.

"You are your own first responder."

(1) We've had about a month since Hurricane #Elsa with quiet seas out in the Atlantic. That is about to change, as we approach peak season in late August/early Sept.

Some systems forming: nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin…

Plus some E. Pacific storms.

(2) Now is not the time for states like FL to be tormented by partisan political division & the rejection of life-saving steps like #GetVaccinated & #MaskUp.

It's never the time, but especially not in peak hurricane season.

#NoPoliticsOnTheBoat #ThisIsAmerica #RightMatters
(3) That Facebook post was written by a woman in Houston, TX affected by one of the worst US hurricanes on record, #Harvey in 2017.

How I wish the level of partisan division in 2021 was lower, like it was 4 years ago.

(1) #SurfsideBuildingCollapse Thread #5

Well, 5 threads about an event is my personal record & that's going to be broken. I will start a "directory thread" linking them all.

Today, 7/1/2021 marks a turning point for Surfside in several ways.
(2) I predicted last night that the rescue operation was about to become a recovery operation. Today, safety sensors activated & crews had to reluctantly pull back. This happened in the 9/11 recovery op & in the NZ situation. All similar types of events, of different sizes.
(3) Further, the fire chief said that a female voice had been heard in the initial hours after the collapse but they couldn't find or reach her.

This happened in NZ, too. Several people survived the collapse only to die while still trapped. One had been on phone to her husband.

(1) Thread #3: Updates on the #SurfsideBuildingCollapse tragedy in Miami, Florida.

This short video gives you a snapshot into where the families are now at, approximately 60 hours post collapse:

(2) I'm writing threads about this building collapse for two reasons.

a) It's a tragedy that will likely end up with a death toll of >160 people. That puts it in the realm of Hurricane Katrina, Oklahoma city 1995 etc.

b) I have experience from a similar incident in 2011
(3) I'll add links to my earlier threads further down. For now I want to stress this point:

The community is nearing the point at which they will have to accept that their loved ones are not coming back.

No one wants to be the one to give the bad news, including me.

(1) A time of writing there are still 159 people unaccounted for at the #SurfsideBuildingCollapse in Florida.

We who were in Christchurch, NZ on 2/22/2011 have been through something similar. 115 people died in an earthquake-caused building collapse here.

We send our love.
(2) "Pancaked" was the term used to describe the collapse of the CTV (Canterbury TV) building in 2011.

We, too, kept vigil for days hoping some more people would make it out alive.

(3) In our case, the building collapsed during a Tuesday lunch hour, when some of the building's office workers had just gone out for lunch.

The earthquake caused PTSD among thousands of people, incl. me. There were 300k people in the city, & countless others closely linked. ImageImage

(1) And so it begins. #HWStormWatch🇺🇸🌀

Hurricane #Bill got a name but he's of no concern to me.

It's the future Hurricane #Claudette⚜️, (lovely Cajun name) that means y'all in her path must get #prepping today.

#Danny #Elsa #Fred #Grace next nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin…
(2) Why on earth would a Kiwi fan of Margaret Thatcher be interested in US Gulf and Atlantic coast hurricanes?

Several reasons, but we'll start with being an earthquake survivor. (2011, NZ, 185 deaths in my city.)

It changed my life.
(3) Earthquakes can't be predicted. Anyone who claims they can is trying to scam you.

Hurricanes CAN be predicted.

So instead of despairing at the death toll each time, I promote #readiness and I fight #disinformation too.

(1) Thread: Who am I? 🥝🇳🇿🇺🇸💃

Just updated my Twitter bio, again.

People are still placing party politics ahead of saving lives.

Saving my life. Saving your life.

There must be #NoPoliticsOnTheBoat at all.

#COVID19nz #StayHomeNZ #StayAtHomeAndStaySafe
(2) I say #NoPoliticsOnTheBoat because this Houston woman made a Facebook post in 2017 during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Around the same time I decided to identify as a Hurricane Watcher bc emergencies expose policy strengths & weaknesses & I am a policy wonk.
(3) If you're new to... me... then you'll need this info.

As a child, I wanted to be a policy analyst. It's my calling, my vocation. I achieved my goal & worked in Wellington, NZ for many years.

Unfortunately I had to "medically retire" just as my career was taking off.

(1) #Florence #PhotoThread starting 9/14/18.

I have several related threads on the go at the moment. To find them, enter "(1) from:godlessnz" in the Twitter search bar then select the "latest" tab.

My key message: Heed safety warnings to protect yourself & loved ones.
(2) To save time I'm presenting photos without locations and names. Most of the initial batch are from the area first hit in NC: Wilmington, New Bern, James City and surrounds.

Urban SAR team uses poles to check for debris & holes as they walk through floodwater.
(3) Rescuers with part of the huge tree that fell on a home, killing 2 & critically injuring a 3rd occupant.

Tree broken off the stump, showing winds were strong enough that sodden soil wasn't always a factor. Being Cat 1 =/= low risk.

Literally a set of steps floating by.

(1) The only time Democrats care about the US citizens of Puerto Rico is when they can make political hay out of them.

At all other times they ignore the territory & it's extreme poverty, economic dependency, & rampant political corruption.

Hurricane Maria deaths estimate.
(2) Watching hurricanes #Katrina & #Harvey from afar was an experience that radicalized me to become a Hurricane Watcher, focusing on storms affecting the US. Harvey had the potential to be another Katrina. Thanks to sterling work at all levels, Katrina-level tragedy was averted.
(3) The fact is, #Harvey, #Irma, & #Maria were handled well by local, state/territory, & federal government. Far Left Democrats FEEL that Maria wasn't, but Far Left Democrats feel a lot of things, especially since the #TDS pandemic outbreak on 11/8/16.

(1) OK listen up. Hurricane #Florence is going to cause extreme flooding, wind & storm surge over a huge area. Due to shallow water off SC & NC, already sodden soil in ~6 states, & the storm's power, size, & forward speed. Explained in this brief story: axios.com/hurricane-flor…
(2) You can follow the thread I have going at the time, which covers all hurricane and storm threats to US territory. Current thread is below. I also have a couple of Twitter lists & links to other info sources there: ]

(3) I'm going to add below some photos and other things from my 2017 coverage of #Harvey #Irma #Maria and #Nate. That storm season was a historic event in American emergency management and community life. There were moments like #NoPoliticsOnTheBoat:
