On October 21, 2020 around 5:00 a.m., an oil film was reported on the Kiel Canal (NOK) near the Landwehr ferry. The police enforcement officers deployed at the Kiel waterway police station (WSPR Kiel) could not find out any details on site at this time. 
At daybreak, the oil film could then be seen. In total, an oil film had spread from Holtenau westward to Weiche Oldenbüttel (60 kilometers of canals). A tanker sailing under the flag of Singapore was identified as the suspected polluter.
