In 2009 Georgia and South Carolina both began construction on new nuclear power: Georgia's Plant Vogtle and South Carolina's Plant Summer. Cost overruns were so extreme that by 2017 the main contractor, Westinghouse, went bankrupt.

That bankruptcy triggered a Go-No Go decision in each state. South Carolina officials decided to cancel Plant Summer. Georgia Public Service Commissioners ignored extensive public comments, energy experts, and their own PSC staff, and voted to continue. 
One of them, @timechols, was then and continues to be a shill for nuclear energy. He lied to the media about the facts of the project which was reported in an article prepared by the @EnergyandPolicy. Open records request revealed the lying by Echols.

She begins with a contrast between the anti-nuclear sentiment of the 70s/80s with the short-lived nuclear renaissance in the first decade of the 2000s .
She saw herself as part of a new generation (or more precisely perhaps, a growth spurt) in the nuclear engineering community willing to re-evaluate of risk and technical hubris in the field.

I have a new friend in my circle. She is, I'm pretty confident, dyed-in-the-wool anti-nuclear. She's also funny, lovely, we share taste in music and broader values.

She knows about what I do on what topic. She hasn't raised it. Nor have I. She's coming for dinner with others next week. What should I do? She's passionate about the environment, care of land, climate change etc... 🤔
Shall I: 1/ raise nuclear at first+every opportunity; make it clear that her 'values' as fluff unless she supports nuclear; call her an idiot or a liar if she raises a talking point that is incorrect; post-party, keep this up via every available channel. It's an option.
