There is something about originality, it never goes out of fashion.

The moment you start trying to sound like someone else, you have diluted that person’s personality and it is no longer you nor the person you are trying to copy.
Yes you can check out the presentation style from other radio hosts but do not try to copy them by trying to sound or gesticulate like they do.

My book “Simplifying The Art of Radio Hosting” stresses the need to be you at all times.

As a newscaster, you must understand that a news story is still a story - it has a beginning, it has a middle and there’s an ending.
You must tell the listener THAT story.

Also, every news story or bulletin is different, hence your delivery or reading must be different.
For example, you cannot read a story on state budget and one on a flooding disaster with the same tone - there has to be a difference in the delivery.

I also read up on something several years ago - learn to emphasize on the right words.
Sometimes, newscasters get carried away by the sound of their voices and they end up stressing the wrong words in their bulletins.
When you emphasize on the wrong words, the impact of that story might be lost along the way.
