1. In 1986, I was in Prof. Steven Goldstein's戈迪溫 Chinese Politics class at Smith College. He had an overriding belief that China would never liberalize. Then, in 1989, while at law school in Hawaii, I saw him in Tiananmen Square next to the Goddess of Democracy with @DanRather

Last night, I said it was unclear whether the voices of escalation would persist. Now it seems foolish that I even suggested otherwise

These posters produced overnight show that the anger over a woman losing the use of her eye will fuel the escalation of the #antiELAB movement ImageImageImageImage
This was never a happy, optimistic movement like the first week of #OccupyHK. The phrase “if we burn, you burn with us” was on the protest banners this time as early as June

But it’s now more clear than ever that the triad attack on July 21 was indeed a point of no return
On that date, I speculated that meeting the five protester demands wouldn’t even be enough to stop this downward spiral

And now, when the sentiment of “an eye for an eye” has become even louder, I’m more convinced than before
