THE WOMAN
(Hon. Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem)

There is a saying that goes, “The only cure for grief is grieve” and people grieve in different ways as we would find out about the current President of the Nigerian Appeal Court in 2012.

In 2011, Her Honorable Justice lost one of her sons in a hit and run incident.

He was barely 13 when he lost his mum and as if that wasn't enough, 3months after losing his mum,his father lost his job.

His father losing his job meant them moving from a 2 bedroom flat to a SELF CONTAIN, now imagine 8 people living in a self contain apartment.

A TOUGH START!
He was the last amongst 7 kids but he didn’t get the special treatment given to “Last Borns” in Nigerian homes.

He rather joined his elder siblings in hustling to make sure they survived, he hawked “Pure water” along Ojota road, Lagos State.

“THE STORY OF TERERAI”

Pls RT
#OdogwuTales Image
Tererai grew up in a poor cattle rearing family in a remote village in Zimbabwe.

At age 11, she was married off and by the age of 18, she was already a mother to 4 kids.

Her brother showed her a book and she couldn’t understand a word in it as she couldn’t read or write. Image
She taught herself how to read from her brother's books and from then all she wanted was to be educated.

Her husband found out she wanted an education badly, and instead of supporting her, discouraged her by always beating or insulting her.

Her husband's friends supported him.

It started out as writing for fun but it later started bringing in money.

I once wrote for an online blog and made money in 6 figures.

I do adverts for brands with my story telling skills and I’m paid for it. Image

“YOUR NAME”
(What Do You Stand For?)

Growing up I had a “love-hate” relationship with my dad and boy, did I make it easy for him, Nah!!!

Anyone that knew me in teenage years would know I was a handful, I wasn’t always this calm.

I thank God my father was firm with me, if not, by now I for don “Otilo”, I would have been a “Goner”.

Thanks to my “stubborn” nature and my father’s reserved nature, we didn’t do a lot of holidaying in our relatives growing up before you will disgrace the family NAME outside.
Whatever we needed was at home, so stay home.

My father cherished his NAME so much and did everything he could to protect it.

I remember after my Junior WAEC, my favorite uncle that was living in Ghana came home and told my dad, he wanted me to come for the holidays in Ghana.

“BEING GOOD STILL PAYS!!!”
(A True Life Personal Story…..)

Growing up, my father Ogaranya was one of the Top 5 importers of shoe parts in Ariaria, Aba.

Man imported goods from Italy, Holland, Vietnam, China, etc Containers were always on the high sea!!!

#OdogwuTales
My father has one bad habit, he’s way too soft hearted and can’t say the word “No” and most of the people around him used it against him, always asking and he kept giving.

We had more than enough, so nobody complained until as businesses go, we had issues.
Business became very bad, some of his containers were delayed for months both on the high sea and when they came into Nigeria.

By the time it came back to Aba, the goods were destroyed, we’re talking about 40 feet container worth millions (when Naira was still Naira).
