Here’s all you should know 👇

As per Govt’s Vahan portal, the number of scooters sold by Ola & Ather to date (as per Vahan) stand at 1.72L & 1.25L.

But Vahan portal doesn’t yet include sales from Telangana & Lakshwadeep. Thus, let’s round up the sales to account for some of that:

🔆 Ola: 1.8L
🔆 Ather: 1.3L

But, what really drove those big numbers?

🔆 Govt’s FAME scheme which has been massively subsidising electric scooters

🔆 In layman terms, the scheme says that after subsidy, the ex-showroom of a price of a scooter should be <Rs 1.5L. And this subsidy could go up to Rs 60k!

📣In 2018, Ola set up an in-house think-tank, fully funded by the company. One it claimed would be fully independent. The Ola Mobility Institute was the brainchild of Anand Shah, Ola Electric's co-founder, a seasoned lobbyist and the chief organizer of Modi's events in US. (1/n)

Shah, who stayed low-key as opposed to Bhavish Agarwal, had headed South Asia division of US lobbying firm Albright Stonebrigde, worked at BMW and Audi, and donned many hats in India- receiving the Gujarat Garima Award in return. (2/n)

Alongside Shah (who left Ola Electric and moved back to the US), Ola has hired key figures to ramp up its lobbying. Take Prashant Kumar, for instance. The son of Niti Aayog's former vice chairman is the director of public policy and executive director of OMI today. (3/n)

Last year, I got my #Ather450X for Rs 1.7L in Mumbai Understandably, a lot of people were surprised to see a scooter cost so much, especially one which they assumed to be inferior to ICE ones

Important advice if you’re looking to get an e2W:

Ever since Ola’s entry into the space, the question shifted to “why buy something so expensive when you can get a cheaper and better scooter from #OlaElectric?”

Considering how many people have shown interest, here are some factors to keep in mind before dropping the ₹

Firstly, let’s start with the price. The Ola S1 costs 1L while the S1 Pro will set you back 1.3L

In comparison, the Ather 450+ goes for 1.03L and 1.22L for the 450X (BOM) rendering the price comparisons moot.

Ather was quick to pass on the new state subsidies to the consumers
