Five Fun Facts, #OleMiss baseball won a national championship edition:

1. Tim Elko was the Rebels' rock when times were good or bad. When Ole Miss was 7-11 in April, he batted .380 with 7 HRs and 19 RBIs. 10-1 in the NCAA Tourney? He batted .378 with 5 HRs and 14 RBIs.
2. Dylan DeLucia and Hunter Elliott combined to start 23 games for #OleMiss against either SEC or NCAA Tournament teams. They had a combined ERA of 2.53 across 135 1/3 innings.

In the NCAA Tourney, they had a combined 1.51 ERA in 53 2/3 innings.
3. Kevin Graham returned from injury on April 8.

Graham played in 37 games post-injury, batting .342 with 34 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

#OleMiss' cleanup man finished the year batting .451 with runners in scoring position, .407 with runners on base and .458 with RISP + 2 outs.

Kevin Graham is never going to want to play left field in this ballpark again.

High, high, high blooper gets lost between Graham and Gonzo and now Oklahoma has the score tied 1-1 in the top of the seventh.
That also ends Hunter Elliott's day. Mason Nichols is coming in to face Jackson Nicklaus with runners on second and third and two outs in a tie game.

#OleMiss is in a tough spot and needs Nichols to come through. Again.
Nichols hits a batter to load the bases but Bianco is playing with house money and is reviewing to see if the batter leaned into the pitch. If overturned, it's an out that ends the inning and this place will explode.

I'd just like Ole Miss to know that I walked in the room and within seconds they made a home run. You're welcome. #HottyToddy.
I just left the room. Ole Miss still ahead?
I came back upstairs to watch the game and immediately there was screaming. You're welcome once again, Ole Miss. #HottyToddy

Ready for the #CFB Analytics Spring Top 40? Here we go. This Power Ranking is derived from a model which utilizes full Coach Staff efficiency metrics, roster talent, & returning production among other metrics. No opinion here, I just regurgitate the numbers. #NoOpinionJustNumbers
40 #Kentucky #BBN #SEC Power Rating: 61.726
Returning Production for the Wildcats may be a problem. At 39.72%, it puts them at 113th in the country. The schedule is manageable tho drawing Ole Miss & Miss State out the West. #CFB
39 #Washington #PurpleReign #Pac12
Power Rating: 62.271
Really like the new coaching staff in Seattle. Should put them in a better position to win. Roster talent purge from the prev regime will have an early effect (last 2 classes were 39th, 86th) but the ship has been righted.

Alright #CFBPlayoff viewers. Lets go through this week's poll. Once again, it was, as it always has been, predictable. The model was off an average of 1 spot per team for the entire Top 25 poll this week. So let's take a look at some resumes shall we? #CFB 🧵
If you took a peak at this projection yesterday, you were prepared for alot of what you saw last night. The resumes are all laid out very similarly to the way the Playoff Committee views them. #ThereIsNoEyeTest

25 #HailState 6-4
SOS: 29, QW: 4, T25W: 2, GC: 3.3

Despite the horrible game control at 3.3, MSU snuck its way into the poll. They modeled at 26 so this isn't all that surprising. They are riding their good SOS, 4 QWs, and 2 T25Ws at this point. No surprise.

Five Fun Facts, #OleMiss vs. Tulane edition:

1. Matt Corral has accounted for 14 touchdowns in his first three games. Among the last 10 Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks, only Lamar Jackson accounted for more TDs in their first three starts.
2. #OleMiss is outgaining its opponents by an average of 294 yards per game.

Here's a list of teams that aren't gaining that many yards per game period: BGSU, GaSt, SoMiss, RUT, KAN, Rice, Colorado, Navy, UNLV, UConn, ULM.
3. #OleMiss has converted 12 4th down attempts, four more than the team with the next most in the FBS.

92 FBS teams haven't even converted four 4th down attempts yet.

Five Fun Facts! #OleMiss vs. Louisville edition:

1. Matt Corral's 436 yards of total offense led all Power 5 players this weekend. By 72 yards. Only seven Power 5 QBs (counting Notre Dame) produced within 100 yards of what Corral did.
2. The #OleMiss defense has held back-to-back opponents below 6 yards per pass attempt dating back to the bowl game.

In what can only be described as "Wait, what?" news, the last time Ole Miss did that in back-to-back games was against Alabama and Georgia in 2016.
3. In the last three years, #OleMiss is 8-4 in games where Snoop Conner runs for a TD and 2-9 when he doesn't.

The Rebels haven't won a game in which Snoop didn't score since the Southeastern Louisiana game in 2019.

So, uh, Lane Kiffin isn't here. Here are a few thoughts on what his absence might mean, and what it doesn't mean.

History's rhyming at #OleMiss with the apparently politically motivated firing of @garrett_felber, a scholar of race & incarceration. 60 years ago they sent lawprof Bill Murphy packing for defending school desegregation & the @ACLU. historynewsnetwork.org/article/45227 Clarion-Ledger (Jackson, Miss.), June 11, 1961, p. 15.
Bill Murphy had tenure, so instead of firing him, @OleMissRebels drove him away. Enterprise-Journal (McComb, Miss.), Aug 1, 1962, p. 8.
@garrett_felber is the author of THOSE WHO KNOW DON'T SAY from @uncpressblog, a history of the Nation of Islam that was shortlisted for the 2020 Museum of African American History Stone Book Award.

Lane Kiffin is on his fifth head job at age 44.

"I don't know," he laughs, "if that's good or bad."

One (wild ass) way or another, we're all gonna find out together.

On the Lane Train & Ole Miss, where they've gotta new sayin' and hashtag: #AllAboard

For my #LSU followers, Lane Kiffin reveals what I've always heard but never truly believed:

While at #Bama in 2016, with LSU debating whether to hire Ed Orgeron, Lane spoke to AD Joe Alleva promising he'd come to BR to be OC if (1) Joe hired O and (2) he didn't get a head job.
Lane on the Kiffin Factor, the penance he endured, a side bet he may wage with Mike Leach, his "normal guy" approach to Twitter & a circuitous career arc that is rounding into a complete circle.

"I guess my life's backwards."

Still thinking about this. We are shaped in both positive & negative ways by our communities. Two of these men are members of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, a community that hails Robert E. Lee as its “spiritual founder” Their community glorifies a man who fought to defend slavery.
They are also part of broader communities—the University of Mississippi which, until a few years ago, proudly waved the Confederate flag at football games and the state of Mississippi which still has the confederate emblem on its flag.
While these young men made their own choices, knowing what their communities celebrate and then seeing them commit a racist act is...predictable.

Interesting thought here: according to our data, the higher ranked team has won roughly 72% of the time over the last decade in the #SEC. That's down from 80% in a study about 5 years ago.

Since expansion (2012) each team has played 56 conference games, and only 5 are above 500.
That's 392 games over 7 seasons, meaning roughly 110 times a lesser ranked team defeated a "more talented" opponent.

Obviously all 5 of Bama's losses are to "less talented" teams, bc they're a top 2 recruiter. The next highest talent recruiter is #UGA, who has lost just 15 times
In the last 7 seasons. Of those 15, every loss except once to #Alabama is a loss to a "less talented" team. So right away, 17% of the "upset losses" are held by the top two recruiters in SEC, bc nearly everyone they play is "less talented" than they are any given Saturday
