I just learned the reason for the baffling 🇨🇦silence at outcome of TOTALLY UNFAIR outcome of the 2016 #Olympics 800m women’s podium that featured three MALE winners, leaving #Canada’s #MelissaBishop in 4th place instead of winning 🥇 GOLD as she deserved:
A lawyer from @TeamCanada threatened #Canadian head coach @Head1Coach as follows:
“I was threatened by COC lawyers in 2016 not to speak up. If I said something I was told that I was going to be banned for life from sport.”

I do have his blessing to post this for the first time in public.

The injustice to one of our own female athletes from #Canada 🇨🇦 is breathtaking.
Our own country’s leadership would rather sellout to a cult rather than to defend one of our champions - even at the expense of waving GOODBYE to #Olympic Gold!! 🥇
Sacrificing a woman and her entire career on the alter of #GenderIdeology .
Just let that sink in. 🤯

This is on you @WorldAthletics !!
Shame on all of you.

We need both @WorldAthletics and the @iocmedia to restore justice to Canada’s #MelissaBishop immediately!
You can still do the right thing and give her the gold retrospectively like you do for doping cases.
Getting a medal in the mail isn’t great but at least it’s something.

#GoldToMelissa 🥇

And the other medals to the deserving women.

I did a 🧵below on the #Whytereview - the review is extensive and I highlight some key statistics within the review.
Here I shall do a🧵on how we got to this point.
Please note - I am not a gymnast and this is not an exhaustive list because its Twitter.
In 2020 the Netflix documentary "Athlete A" highlights the legal proceedings against Larry Nassar and the various bodies who knew the abuse was taking place. The brave women who spoke out are currently in process of suing FBI.…
Following "Athlete A" and HBO documentary "At the Heart of Gold" (2019) gymnasts in other nations began speaking out publicly to the press in numbers too big to ignore.
This widespread publicity of athlete abuse is ongoing in GB, Australia and Canada to name a few.

@taralipinski + @JohnnyGWeir: the way you both demonized the Russian child skater -- she is 15 years old -- is crass bullying. Take out your rage & outrage on the Putin Machine, not this child? You both should reach out to her, apologize & offer support. You should be ashamed.
@taralipinski + @JohnnyGWeir Have you actually heard of Vladimir Putin? I bet Valieva & her family will be punished in some way. You should be there for them instead of maximizing your public clout in misplaced outrage at a child. She's not in charge. You are adults! For shame.
@taralipinski @JohnnyGWeir I mean let me just close this loop by saying: Do you really believe that any 15-year-old Russian Olympic athlete is in charge of their own drug regimen? Do you really believe that the Russian #Olympic Machine that forced the games to allow them would take even one chance on that?

I’m finding the #WinterOlympics painful to watch

It isn’t just men’s genitalia getting pummelled, it’s women’s too

For matters of good taste, I’m not going to post the clip of the couple’s figure skating, but instead leave it to Robin Williams to explain
The #WinterOlympics can also lead to injury when viewers decide to give sports a go in their own homes

Inspired by the #Olympic figure skating, this kid ended up with a blister on the sole of his foot the size of a golf ball.

After a weekend of mass #Covid testing in #Beijing, there is a lot more today. Whole housing communities are being told to be tested, in some cases twice in two days. Officials at one compound told me this was not because of infected residents but as a precaution. #China
Some context: #Beijing’s Games in 2022 compared to the atmosphere in 2008. #China. “Two Olympics and two very different Chinas”…
You can see from the video above that there is a very high proportion of people wearing masks in #Beijing, even outdoors (in the case of this clip, 100% of people). #China

1/🧵 Elite Black Swimmers are taking a wonderful place in Sports History!
When I was a boy, we had no Black swimmers on my AAU team. At 2015 NCAA’s, 3 Black women stood on the podium in the 100 free: Simone Manuel, Lia Neal & Natalie Hinds.
@WomenSportsFdn @swimswamnews Image
2/ The #Olympic 4x100 free relay had 2 of those women (@swimone & Natalie) on the podium wearing bronze in Tokyo. Natialie came back after quitting swimming & hough Simone was not in top 6 at trials, coaches put her in finals & she had the fastest split! Image
3/ About that historic 2015 NCAA’s, Maritza McClendon said of Manuel, Neal & Hinds🥇sweep: "A tear instantly came to my eyes, I couldn’t believe it. This is a true moment in history for minorities. 3 women of color take 1,2, 3 in the 100 free!”

2/ It only takes a quick headline search about women in leadership to see that we still have a long way to go.

We believe ALL women leaders across industries deserve to be treated equitably, which includes the way the media engages with and covers their work.
3/ Whether journalists are covering @itskerrii, @naomiosaka, #MeghanMarkle, or #BreonnaTaylor, they have a responsibility to make sure that stories about impacted women are told in ways that are fair and equitable and that mitigate harm...not intensify it.
