Doug Ford should give a huge thank-you to the @OntLiberal party for helping to ensure this victory for his second majority tonight.

@StevenDelDuca campaigned hard against the @OntarioNDP right to the very end.

I had a hunch that this was going on when I saw all the calls for strategic voting—which often just confuses progressively minded voters.

Small-C, conservative-lite, Liberals, will nver solve the problems created by big-C Conservatives.

Consider: of those who thought Ford was a great/good/OK premier, 13%/10%/33% of respondents were Liberal voters.

h/t to @christoaivalis.

When it comes to preventing homelessness and supporting unhoused people in Ontario, “we’ve known what the solutions are for a very long time,” says @JesseJenkinson (@MAP_Health). “It’s just whether or not anyone’s going to finally do something about it.” #OnElxn #OnPoli [1/9]
The pandemic exacerbated homelessness but things were bad before. A 2021 Statistics Canada study concluded homelessness in Ontario has been worsening over time, affecting younger cohorts, and shifting to smaller but rapidly growing municipalities. www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/82-003-… [2/9]
.@AbeOudshoorn (@WesternU) says the increase in homelessness came as pre-2018 progress slowed and organizations ran out of capacity to re-house people. Simultaneously, the housing market took off, making it hard to find affordable housing. [3/9]

How many ways has Doug Ford’s government reshaped Ontario’s environmental landscape over the past four years? We’ve counted 32. 👇 thenarwhal.ca/doug-ford-onta… #onpoli #ONelxn A photo illustration collage featuring Doug Ford.
1. The PCs prevented Ontarians from weighing in on policy by failing to follow the Environmental Bill of Rights

2. Slashed funding for Indigenous conservation efforts and other environmental initiatives

3. Accelerated plans for two highways through the Greenbelt trucks pass a highway sign that says 'Entering the Greenbelt
4. Formed a youth environment council

5. Disempowered and then rebuilt Ontario’s conservation authorities

6. Ford appointed a Greenbelt Council chair who voted against the Greenbelt

7. Scrapped the Drive Clean program The Holland River, part of the Holland Marsh, east of Bradfo

🏙️🏡In recognition of rapidly rising rents, the four major parties in Ontario are promising some big changes for renters, including rent control and vacancy control. I talked to two housing experts about what impact those policies could have. #OnPoli #OnElxn [1/7]
Ontario units built pre-2018 are subject to rent control, meaning landlords can raise rent by only a set amount each year (typically between 0.5 and 3 per cent). However, landlords can apply to make "above-guideline increases" to recover costs. [2/7]
@ScottLeonTO (@wellesleyWI) and @NemoyL (@TorontoMet) says AGIs can help keep units in good repair, but can also lead to unaffordable increases. Leon suggests policy options such as grants to help repairs while keeping rents affordable (more on that in the article). [3/7]

🧵At last night's Debate, Doug Ford was directly asked by @MikeSchreiner whether he would support Bill 86 (tabled by the NDP)-London Family Act-to fight Islamophobia and racist hate, notably, by the creation of an Anti-Racism Advisory and Advocacy Council. No response. #ONelxn
The Act developed after a the killing of a London, Ontario family last June. It also calls for a ban on Queen's Park protests that fuel racist, homophobic, transphobic or xenophobic hate, and prevent white supremacy groups from registering as societies. Ford diverted, saying...
that he has helped fund security outside mosques, after the meaningless statement: "there is no room for racism in Ontario." This is nothing without legislative action. #AntiRacism

We've seen the polls. Remember, those are almost always *province wide* polls.

We don't need to win province wide; we just need to win our ridings. And to do that, all we need to do is #UniteTheVote

But that means getting organized. Here's a thread🧵 of ways you can help:
First and foremost, if you're in #Toronto, you can pledge to #UniteTheVote behind the candidate best positioned to beat Ford's Conservatives in your riding.

To take the pledge, head to notoneseat.ca/unitethevote
If you're somewhere in the rest of #Ontario, you can help by amplifying our message. Follow this account, and join our amplification network on Twitter and Instagram - check here for instructions: notoneseat.ca/take-action

Once again @StevenDelDuca giving us empty words after saying “time for more action & less words”.

No actual strategy or plan, just bashing @fordnation & the rapid test bias.

Make the connection, Del Duca… Black students are in structurally worse schools? #onelxn #onpoli
So all in all the Liberal plan is to… improve schools and hope it trickles down to Black students (???).

…Why didn’t we think of that. 🤷🏽‍♀️

#onelxn #onpoli
Debate etiquette pet peeve: if you don’t actually answer the question, you’ve failed.

Take your allotted time to speak to your plan, we already know how poorly everything has been done up until now.

If I was asked to design an election process that would guarantee low levels of participation, I would include ten simple elements. First, I'd hold the election in the middle of the work week, unlike the dozens of countries that hold elections on a weekend or holiday. #Onelxn Image
2. I'd use a voting system that prevents new voices from emerging. That way, you might see only three parties electing seats in the legislature during a period of sixty years, essentially boring everyone into a state of apathy. #ONelxn Image
3. I'd make sure that legislative power was entirely centralised in the Executive branch. If everyone knows their representative has no real power and that each legislator's vote is whipped in parliament, that would likely reduce turnout. #OnElxn Image

This election is about change for the better. And it’s never been more possible. #onpoli #OnElxn
Let’s come together. Let’s stop Doug Ford’s cutting and privatizing plan in its tracks. Let’s fix our health care system, have dental coverage for everyone and make life more affordable for families. Let’s come together, and make change for the better happen. #onpoli #OnElxn
Kathleen Wynne has abandoned the fight against Doug Ford's cuts. And her request today for a minority government is a demand that she be allowed to continue to hold the power at Queen’s Park – something voters have already rejected. #OnElxn #onpoli

So, uh...today's Toronto Sun cover? #ONpoli #OnElxn

Bears worth repeating that this photo exists, and that this is the company Doug Ford has been happy to keep.

1/2M living in ON don’t qualify for OHIP b/c they are not permanent residents or Cdn citizens: their “free” healthcare would cost ON taxpayers ~$2.5B/yr under NDP’s “sanctuary province” & $Billions/yr more from influx once ON opens borders for “free medical tourism”. 1/3

#onpoli
Why are none of these $BILLIONS needed to make ON a “sanctuary province” not costed in @OntarioNDP’s policy platform?

This will be a significant burden on our existing #ONHealth Crisis, esp as our senior pop’n is projected to grow by >68% over next 20yrs. 2/3

#onpoli #onelxn
These $Billions are in addition to $7Billion math mistake already found in NDP platform

Patient care in ON is already significantly rationed to pay our existing $1B/mth interest on ON’s massive $350B debt. I’m fearful for the future of #ONHealth 3/3

Went to an open house in my son's grade one classroom today (Ontario public school). We watched and participated as the teacher took the class through a math lesson. I have some thoughts. #onpoli #onelxn #ldnont
First of all, teachers are amazing. There is no way most of us could manage a classroom, full stop, let alone also get some real education progress happening. A month from the end of school, this classroom felt alive and positive and focused. #onpoli #onelxn #ldnont
As the year has progressed, so have the walls. Now they brim with learning strategies and completed work. And as the teacher took them through the math lesson, she kept referring to the math corner of the room--and the strategies there. #onpoli #onelxn #ldnont

This morning, my team and I installed the first lawn sign of this 2018 election campaign in Vaughan—Woodbridge!

Request your sign at votedelduca.ca/lawnsign ImageImageImageImage
I have been so lucky to reside in Vaughan for many years with my family. When I consider the things that we are investing in, I personally think about my daughters and other Vaughan families that I have been so honoured to represent.
I want to make sure they have the same degree of opportunity, if not more than I had growing up. The truth of the matter is that we have delivered positive results by listening to the community and by working together.
