Chris Argyris (1992) made the following observations:
1. It is one thing to detect and correct errors.
2. It is another to detect why errors persist.
3. And finally, it is still another to surface the cover-ups that occur to facilitate the persistence of errors.
Items 2 and 3 are tough to overcome in even the smallest groups because our defensive values are so strong as we protect ourselves from looking bad, guilt, threat, or embarrassment.
And yet major breakthroughs happen when items 2 and 3 occur regularly. Keep working at it to achieve holistic learning. #doublelooplearning #leadership #organizationaldefenses
