A long thread, incorporating my 6,000th tweet! Often asked, so here's my attempt to summarise what I have learned, and believe in the world of #PROMs

With so much use of, desire for and great work in the field why is it so hard and isn't working as it should/ could/ would...?
Firstly stop thinking of tools and focus on logistics, engagement, and embedding an organisation wide culture of collecting #PROMs and #PREMs
This was our starting point 7 years ago at @NorthumbriaOrth - using paper & Excel across 5 hospital sites. #Teamwork
Many parties are already collecting #PROMs - particularly in the world of #orthopaedics - but as highlighted by the @BritOrthopaedic article on @SWORDResearchUK @NetworkProms EMPROVE audit, there is no consensus on what, when or how.

52/365 good radiographs are key, now for a systematic approach to assessment
Firstly, some acetabular radiographer anatomy
1 iliopubic line - the ant column
2 ilioischial line - the post column
3 the acetabular fossa
4 the teardrop - medial inferior socket
5 post wall
6 ant wall
Assess the bone deficiency or excess. Where is it? If a deficient acetabulum: is it contained (intact front, back, medial, superior walls) or uncontained. This should feed into the type of reconstruction, the prosthesis and the need for bone graft.

"Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" (John Lydon)

The publication of this letter & the nature of its correction raises questions about the reliability of the academic record.

When the letter by Won Sriwijitalai & Viroj Wiwanitkit was published in #JFLM, fact-checking journalists @SureAndShare in Thailand shared their concerns about it on @Twitter & @Facebook.

2/14
@SureAndShare were concerned that they were unable to verify who the 1st author was (or where they worked), or the death of a #forensic #medical professional from #COVID19. They cautioned against sharing the story.

I have seen many physicians on #MedTwitter and #OrthoTwitter dispute this author’s allegation that physicians are β€œkeeping prices high” in #Healthcare. This is patently false, at least with regard to procedural reimbursement.

How do we know this in #Orthopaedics?
Our research groups at @UnivOrtho and @OrthoAtYale retrospectively studied @CMSGov #CMS #Medicare reimbursements for Orthopaedic procedures across specialties over a period of 16 years.
What did we find? Read our published article here:

"Trends in Medicare Reimbursement for Orthopedic Procedures: 2000 to 2016" (via #pubmedontap) ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29494748
