This is what a proper detour looks like for #ActiveTransportation.

Notice the #accessibility ramp, helpful signage, the detour is direct and logical, priority given to people over cars.

#DetoursforPeople
All too often in #Ottawa, sidewalks and cycleways are just marked "closed" forcing people onto roads with fast moving cars.

Alternatively, they are forced to cross the road with no priority crossing or confusing detour is set up that adds several city blocks to a 🚴‍♂️🧍♿ trip.
Yesterday, this sidewalk was blocked as 100's of kids in 3 area schools were trying to pass through this area. Car and truck traffic still had full use of the road though.

It's the giant last #ottcity meeting before summer break. Chiarelli investigation, in-camera on RTG contract, ward boundaries, Cumberland byelection. Plus many motions - bars in Market, child care and schools in COVID, etc.

The City of Ottawa will be redrawing its urban ward boundaries in advance of the next election. I decided to conduct an analysis of the 5 options. THREAD #ottcity #ottnews #ottpoli #ottwalk #ottbike #otttransit @HorizonOttawa @centretownbuzz @EcologyOttawa app05.ottawa.ca/sirepub/cache/…
First up, option #1. Option 1 increases the number of wards/city councillors by 2 and is the second best in terms of friendliness to urban voices (that is, urban voices are not under-represented). It's the most malapportioned of all the five options but still overall not too bad.
Next up, option #2. This option is the second best option in terms of having the least amount of malapportionment. Malapportionment is a measure of inequality (some votes are more equal than others) and it's middle of the pack in terms of urban-friendliness. Overall so-so option.

Ok, Ottawa. Two years from now potential municipal candidates will be prepping for a summer of barbecues and festivals, warming up for a fall election. This is a great time for those folks who might be contemplating a run to start putting things in motion. #ottpoli
So where do you start? First, with a lot of self-reflection. Ask yourself: why do I want to run? What is driving me? What is the difference I want to make in my community and my city?
That’s the question you will encounter the most as a candidate. And it’s one that far too many candidates are able to clearly answer. Let’s explore why that is.

Some thoughts on #ottcity's recent decision to partake in security theatre. Instead of spending taxpayers money on measures that serve to impede public participation, how about spending money on measures that will increase participation? Some ideas:
1. Stream all council and committee meetings on a platform that allows people to not only hear dialog, but see the PowerPoint presentations being made
2. Enable people who are not able to attend in person the ability to provide their 5 mins via video conferencing
