The City of Ottawa will be redrawing its urban ward boundaries in advance of the next election. I decided to conduct an analysis of the 5 options. THREAD #ottcity #ottnews #ottpoli #ottwalk #ottbike #otttransit @HorizonOttawa @centretownbuzz @EcologyOttawa app05.ottawa.ca/sirepub/cache/…
First up, option #1. Option 1 increases the number of wards/city councillors by 2 and is the second best in terms of friendliness to urban voices (that is, urban voices are not under-represented). It's the most malapportioned of all the five options but still overall not too bad.
Next up, option #2. This option is the second best option in terms of having the least amount of malapportionment. Malapportionment is a measure of inequality (some votes are more equal than others) and it's middle of the pack in terms of urban-friendliness. Overall so-so option.

Ok, Ottawa. Two years from now potential municipal candidates will be prepping for a summer of barbecues and festivals, warming up for a fall election. This is a great time for those folks who might be contemplating a run to start putting things in motion. #ottpoli
So where do you start? First, with a lot of self-reflection. Ask yourself: why do I want to run? What is driving me? What is the difference I want to make in my community and my city?
That’s the question you will encounter the most as a candidate. And it’s one that far too many candidates are able to clearly answer. Let’s explore why that is.

Last week, I showed that a lot of municipal campaign donations come from people who don't even live in the ward. So where DO they live?

Get to know who was behind the 2018 election (thread showing residences of top donors and who they support). @TransparencyOtt #ottpoli

This will be unpopular. Please read full thread before telling me off. #transit #octranspo #meeting #ottpoli 1/n
The Nov 6th #Transit Commission will be extraordinary meeting and should be treated as such. #ottpoli
This #transit meeting should NOT include public delegations. It should be committee of whole with all active councillors and the citizen commissioners. #ottpoli

LRT update begins now. How close are we from riding the rails? We might find out. #ottpoli
First up, the derailment last week. GM John Manconi says "human error" on switch movement. Train was moving at the right speed, one set of wheels off track at a switch. The switches are manually controlled in the yard (on the main line they're auto).
"Minor repairs" required to the switch, Manconi says. The train is fine.

LRT update starts with virtual tour of a train. Then a pretty pic of Parliament Station. #ottpoli
Manconi: RTG has "done some amazing work" in recent weeks. Significant progress, he says. But adds "winter ops" as a ninth area to watch.
He gets into the Alstom Citadis Spirit trains. He says they've been used around the world and adapted to the local environment. (Though this Spirit version was designed for Ottawa).
