Thread 1/5 The publication of england.nhs.uk/publication/wo… is a moment for humble reflection for the #NHS leadership community. While there is evidence of modest improvement, there’s a significant way to go before we eliminate workplace inequality for our ethnic minority colleagues
2/5 Delivering equality of outcome & opportunity is our professional & moral obligation as senior #NHS leaders and where this isn't already happening, we must all be accountable for developing and delivering urgent plans to eliminate inequality @WRES_team @Jenldt @AntonEmmanuel2
3/5 Although there are examples of excellent practice across all WRES indicators, no one #NHS organisation is doing everything well. As set out in england.nhs.uk/publication/we…, each of our organisations must develop measurable strategies to quicken the pace of change @WRES_team

1/ Such a pleasure to meet the fantastic multi-disciplinary team at Valley Park Surgery, Croydon, today. All are deeply committed to patients and incredibly passionate about delivering the #COVIDVaccine to the local community. Image
2/ Every single member of the surgery team has been trained as a vaccinator, and medical assistants Salma, Zainab, Huma and Tasin call patients and talk them through the #COVIDVaccination details, which is a great opportunity to allay any concerns. Image

Our dad was born OTD in 1925 - traditionally we had to have strawberries and cream to celebrate. Back in the 1960s this would be early in the season so these would be our first and sometimes only strawberries.
He was born in Wales near @kivetonwales eldest son of a #YorkshireMiner who was determined that none of his children would follow him into the pit, and they didn’t. Dad won Miners’ scholarships to @KingsPontefract and from there to @Kings_Cambridge a two year degree in wartime
His closest brush with sport was to keep score for the school cricket team - he found God (or perhaps it was the other way round) at Uni and started off a theological career which took him to @SCM_Britain and a conference in India where he met our Aussie mum from @australianscm

I’ve been meeting (virtually and socially distanced) with staff from different teams and with different perspectives about their experiences of COVID-19 and today I talked to staff from our disability network (a thread)1/13
The pandemic has had a huge impact on #OurNHSPeople with disabilities. I’ve been reflecting on how traumatic this whole experience has been for everyone and I wanted to listen to their experiences – both of staff who are shielding / working at home 2/13
and others who've needed to make other dramatic adjustments to the work they work. I heard emotional and heartfelt accounts from the network about coming to terms with this challenging situation both personally & professionally. 3/13

#BlackLivesMatter: a thread. 1/ Like most people of colour, I have experienced #racism, but I've learned more profoundly how it plays out in everyday life since I joined the #NHS.
2/ It’s in the #NHS that I’ve had the privilege of learning from those who care tirelessly for others despite being systematically disadvantaged. Many of us are feeling hurt and hopeless right now. There is some anger. Whatever you are feeling, it is valid.
3/ For years it has fallen to people of colour to educate others, to fight for basic rights and privileges some take for granted. But many are tired. What has happened to #GeorgeFloyd and others has triggered painful memories of personal experiences.

Meanwhile, Far Right intensify propaganda against testing & urge us all to trust in UK Gov experts & senior officials....who haven't even managed to ensure adequate supply of plastic pinafores, let alone proper PPE

The vile UK Far Right have been holding up Sweden's aggressive #HerdImmunity strategy as an exemplar

BUT Sweden's deaths are sadly coming home to roost

Norway, which has tested most & has strict lockdown, has much lower death rate

Good to see @didoharding @julianhartley1 work emerging today with the publication of @NHSEngland @NHSImprovement @NHS_HealthEdEng Interim People Plan. Thread shows where things that matter to people are covered in plan. #OurNHSPeople @HealthwatchE 1/7
link.medium.com/E5wR40HvdX
Here’s a link to the plan: longtermplan.nhs.uk/wp-content/upl…
The introduction (pages 2 and 3) puts what people consistently tell @HealthwatchE about the need for joined-up staff in joined-up services at the heart of the plan. #OurNHSPeople 2/7 Pages 2-3 of Interim People Plan.
Important commitment that @NHS_HealthEdEng will ask people what we need from future doctors, to inform planning by royal colleges and @gmcuk. Of course, this ought to apply to all professional education across health and care, but it’s a good start. #OurNHSPeople 3/7 Page 15 of Interim People Plan.
