Today, we’re proud to announce the launch of our new State Voting Rights Council made up of Democratic state legislators from across the country. Together, we’ll strategize on fighting GOP voter suppression & mobilize national resources to preserve #OurVoteOurVoice. 
The State Voting Rights Council will be co-chaired by Nevada Assembly Speaker @JasonFrierson & Michigan Senate Democratic Leader @jimananich, & include members from Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, New York, Wisconsin, & more.
@JasonFrierson @jimananich So far this year, Republicans have introduced hundreds of bills to suppress the vote. In stark contrast, Democrats in the states have taken the lead on expanding access by implementing policies like automatic voter registration & more early voting.
The polls have now opened in Mississippi & trained @NAACP_LDF #PreparedtoVote (PtV) volunteers & staff are on-the-ground equipping voters with non-partisan election protection information.

#OTD in 1965 brave activists attempted a 54-mile march from Selma, AL to Montgomery, AL for #votingrights.
But upon crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge, state troopers with billy clubs & tear gas assaulted the men & women.
This day became known as #BloodySunday.

The heinous violence led @NAACP_LDF to file & win a lawsuit against the AL Governor, which afforded the marchers federal protection for a subsequent march.
