The relationships between rugby union, and health and well-being: a scoping review 🏉

A Thread - please feel free to share! #RugbyAndHealth

1/n
Why do this study?

Majority of research has focused on link between rugby and injuries/concussion, with no 'big-picture' scientific overview of the potential relationships between rugby, and health and wellbeing

#RugbyAndHealth
We wanted to provide this overview so that players/parents etc could make evidence-informed decisions around participation, and to identify key areas where research is needed that would provide insights in the future

15 years after the event, 6 years after the start of the trial, long awaited Judgment at the STL coming up at 11am.
Judge Re reading out of the summary of facts illustrates immediately that virtually all the Prosecutor's case relies on circumstantial evidence from telephone networks information.
Judge Re announces Judgment is 2000 pages! Did I hear that correctly???

In animal welfare science, some areas (particularly where large industries have integrated R&D culture, like dairy/eggs/meat/wool sectors) are well funded. Other human-animal interaction research (where human health outcomes integrated) gets funded too...
... However, the animal experience/welfare side is often under-researched (or absent) in favour of human health outcomes. This is disappointing, only researches half the story & risks exploitation rather than science which helps shape evidence-based best practice #animalwelfare
It's my hope that more researchers, institutes & funders will insist on #animalwelfare being robustly measured in new studies of human-animal interaction and tricky areas like wildlife management in the future. We are lucky to have support of @UFAW_1926 @AnimalWelfareRN #science

Unnatural climate solutions? Why the hype around ‘natural’ climate solutions threatens us all. New commentary by me and @shannonosaka in @NatureClimate nature.com/articles/s4155… @GeographyUOM @InSIS @SERG_Geog_UoM @UoM_MERI #Cop25Madrid2019 #COP25 #ClimateChange Image
@shannonosaka @NatureClimate @GeographyUOM @InSIS @SERG_Geog_UoM @UoM_MERI Natural climate solutions are rapidly rising up the #ClimateAction agenda with promises of lower costs, greater readiness and fewer risks than emerging technologies for carbon removal like BECCS or @DKeithClimate’s direct air capture and storage Image
@shannonosaka @NatureClimate @GeographyUOM @InSIS @SERG_Geog_UoM @UoM_MERI @DKeithClimate They (tree planting in particular) feature prominently in UK election manifestos on the #ClimateEmergency, with Labour pledging an ‘ambitious’ amount, Tories 75k p.a., Lib Dems 60 million p.a., and Greens 700 million by 2030 via @CarbonBrief Image

@NeerajKA OK. So the Washington DC @WeWork offices have sliding doors that fit into the slider slots in the upper part of the frame (pic 1).

For maintenance, the doors are fitted by lifting them into the gap & hanging them in place, which then run on runners on the floor sliders (pic 2)/1
@NeerajKA @WeWork The lock on the door turns a "hook" into a hole in the frame. Regardless of umbrella, you can turn this lock.
@NeerajKA @WeWork Solution:

You need

-Crowbar &
-Long screwdriver or stick to move umbrella

1. Unlock the door
2. Fit crowbar under the door at the runner 3. Crowbar the door upwards into the space. This exposes enough of a gap between door runner & floor
4. Use screwdriver to move umbrella

Stage 19: Saint-Jean-De-Maurienne > Tignes (126.5km)

A short stage, but no less barbaric than today's brute of a route. Again, this is all about survival. Who's going to make it?

#TDF2019🇫🇷

PREVIEW THREAD 👇
What an absolute belter of a stage today, right? Admittedly it was a bit of a slow burner, but boy was it fun to watch it explode on those final slopes of the Galibier.

#TDF2019🇫🇷
Still, despite a flurry of attacks from the INEOS boys, and a crack from Alaphilippe, the GC remains very much as it was when we left the Pyrenees - with only Bernal gaining on the GC contenders.

Ok. It’s time to go into Joshua’s memory box and tell his story #thread
Joshua was very much a rainbow baby 🌈 and we were so excited and over the moon when I finally made it into the second trimester. (Alex and I are both big rugby fans!)
I was working as a 1st year Registrar in A&E when I suddenly broke my waters at 24 weeks. I was transferred to Southampton @UHSFT who have a specialist level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They were wonderful, and did everything they could to stop my labour over Father’s Day.
