#SoftBank is projecting losses worth $24 billion for 2019 fiscal. The Japanese technology company attributed the losses on investments made through its #VisionFund..
(1/3)
We just can't get around our head why would #VisionFund invest in traditional Real Estate companies like
Clutter
Compass
Katerra
OpenDoor
#Wework
#OYO
(2/3)
Especially Real Estate companies with no USP in the long run. No wonder WeWork and Oyo are among the main contributors for the Funds losses. (3/3)

1/n Full account on how OYO tried to manipulate and scam us as their partner hotel. This is the story for all of you who wonder how a big corporate with so much public attention can cheat people so blatantly. (All events happened before COVID-19).
2/n In July 2018, OYO approached us with a really good deal to build an OYO branded townhouse on our 800 sq yds plot in Gurugram and lease it out over a 7 year lock-in period. After months of negotiation and finalization, we entered into a legal agreement with them in Nov 2018.
3/n This became a big project for us. It required a huge investment. We had to take a bank loan for the same. After an year of stress and hard work, we finally got the project completed on time. In Nov 2019 when OYO was supposed to take over our property, they stopped responding.

Orompoto was, according to oral traditions, the first and only female Alaafin of Oyo. She was the sister of her predecessor, Eguguojo. She assumed the throne in 1554 because there was no male successor from her elder brother at the time.

#Thread #Oyo #Yoruba Image
Legend has it that she cut off her breasts (mastectomy) and put on men's clothing to look like a man and for the Oyo Mesi to accept her as Alaafin.

In 1557, Alaafin Orompoto strengthened Oyo's military might. She imported horses from as far as Timbuktu in Mali and had over...
...1000 horsemen. She did tie leaves on the horses' tails so that when they went a fighting, the leaves swept the ground after them to cover trails of the horses' prints.

Another impressive stat: UBER had a net loss of $8.1bn over the last 12 months. Whilst this is a pure accounting loss, cash burn was a bit milder, but still outrageous at -$3.4bn, with accelerating tendencies.
We live in the midst of a dotcom bubble renewal, with the difference that products/services today are real and useful and the madness gets financed by VC and PE rather than individual stock market investors. The similarity: financials are still mind-boggling and non-sensical.
UBER will get absolutely hammered by the Californian law change (finally treating drivers as employees) and interestingly enough by the UK VAT liability issue.

Most of the apps and websites are card based these days. They shows a listing. This listing have cards vertically arranges one after another. The content on those card is fixed. Only the most important content is visible. What if we can customise the content?
Suppose I am searching a new House and specifically looking for Dimension. Or I am searching for Mobile and specifically looking for Camera resolution. Suppose I am looking for Restaurants and specifically looking for Distance. I don't want to dig down tapping! Is it possible to
pin the content that appear henceforth on the cards right on the listing page as we open the app. #UX #interactiondesign #Interactions #InformationArchitecture #IA #design #UI #UIDesign #HCD #retail #Digital #ecommerce #apps #productdesign #HCI

1/ The country’s profile got bleaker this week for a host of reasons - impetuous regulatory behaviour, refugees left out in the cold, a needless rise in public recurrent spending and an unshackled rogue police squad.
2/ Nothing illustrates #Nigeria’s dysfunction as much as the minimum wage palaver. The ₦27,000 ($75) or even ₦30,000 ($83) is not much – those that earn it will hover around the poverty line.
3/ The issue is that even such a wage is beyond the capacity of @AsoRock to pay, and for many small businesses as well, this will represent a massive upswing in cost. There is a disconnect between value creation by the workforce, and how much they earn.
