In honor of #NationalFossilDay today, #EarthCube celebrates some of its #paleo domain projects - partnerships among geoscientists, software engineers, & data experts to develop practices and software tools to help answer critical science questions.

Roughly chronologically:
.#EarthCube started with a set of @NSF_GEO funded workshops, hosted by leading geoscientists with end users in their own fields, to first gather science needs. Result: priorities for critical questions in 24 domains + overall summary. Paleogeoscience here: earthcube.org/sites/default/…
@NSF_GEO Priorities coming out of the 2013 end-user workshop went into a 2015 @NSF RCNetwork, Cyberinfrastructure for Paleogeosciences (C4P), to share community info, recommend best practices, work with repositories, and inform tool development. Summary: earthcube.org/sites/default/…

*Thread*

Every single diet zealot seems to use the term 'this is how we evolved eating' in their argument to support their way of eating.

There's a couple of issues with this...
Number 1: it can not be proven or disproven to be accurate > hard to perform a recall on a Homosapien from 20,000BC.

Number 2: whether you're a vegan, keto, carnivore or other, you could all technically be correct. Which kinda makes the whole argument a bit null and void.
Where your ancestors were placed geographically would have influenced how they ate, and the changing seasons would also have a major part to play on the availability of different foods.

1/12 I’ve been tweeting about #T2DM and my #LCHF diet for about a year. Here are some of my observations. I DO observe that a LCHF way of eating has helped me lose weight, sustain that weight loss and get my Type2 into remission. So I advocate it as a method for others try
2/12 – I DO observe a large cohort of other people achieving similar success in removing obesity or reversing #T2DM via #LCHF or their variants, #Keto , #paleo , #carnivore , #banting or #atkins
3/12 – I DO NOT observe large cohorts of people achieving and advocating success in reversing #T2DM through other methods. I would like to; we would all like to; more sustainable options means more patients with better outcomes

Thread: YES, MEAT IS SAFE & HEALTHY

Besides being a 'pharmakon', meat is also a 'pharmakos' (scapegoat). As the most symbolic of all foods & as a predilected carrier of meaning, it acts as an adsorbent of societal anxieties. Often presented as scientific 'truth'.

Not.

There is something seriously rotten in contemporary nutrition. The entire chain-of-proof is no longer based on the scientific method but is profoundly corrupted by vested interests and ideological dogma.

Cf. my paper on meat in the post-truth era: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Except for the Daily Mail-like headlines, it all looks pretty convincing. The meat-is-bad narrative is now supported by official institutions such as the WHO and the AICR. Which seems to end all debate.

But wait a minute...
