#OrangeTheWorld - A thread on reproductive control, coercion and entrapment 🧵

As a #trapped populations scholar, I have lately spent a lot of time thinking about reproductive #coercion, #control and #entrapment. (i)
The #familycourts appear to fail to understand, acknowledge and interrupt these dynamics of #coercivecontrol in their current system. (ii)
Many perpetrators of #coercivecontrol will already begin to put pressure on or introduce the idea of a child during the early love bombing phase. (iii)

A 🧵 on '#ParentalAlienation' in #familycourt.
PA advocates claim there is an abundance of credible research, there is no shortage of research that's true, of highly questionable studies with no control groups, no objective clinical selection criteria and no
systematic consideration of other reasons a child may reject a parent (see Milchman, Mercer and Drew, Barnett, Meier etc). The studies are 'methodologically weak', non random and not generalizable, unlike the ONLY study on FC outcomes by Meier, which found PA is highly gendered,
benefitting only fathers and '(virtually doubling) courts’ rejection of mothers’ abuse claims, and mothers’ losses of custody to the father accused of abuse'. The PA advocates rely on studies that overly use retrospective accounts and use scales that 'lack credible basis', see

@midgetmummsie The appearance of the smiling child—therefore all is ok is made worse I think in homes or circles where geniality is deemed the norm. Presenting at a school or #church with those smiles hides such pain & fear the child may lose a parent or physical security. #ParentalAlienation/1
@midgetmummsie 2/is certainly a systematic and circular circumstance by facilitator and recipient. When you first come across it all events seem one offs. However over time the mindset of the abuser & understanding their intent to harm the child — while the child smiles in blind trust becomes/3
@midgetmummsie 3/ apparent. We should not be surprised that an aggrieved parent who is rejected by a partner for abuse of a child or self lashes out this way. To suggest alienation — abuse of child and parent does not occur is highly ignorant.Again it is systematic, involves isolation, use /4

I once knew a woman who was married to a police officer. They separated, after years of mental abuse, she left with their young children, moving into rented accommodation. And he stalked her. She never knew until he told her.
He showed her exactly where he could stand without being seen, to look into her kitchen windows. He showed her where he could park to monitor who went into and out of her property. He was convinced she was having an affair. Which, of course, she wasn’t.

What is #parentalalienation ?

According to Dr Joyanna Sillberg:
There is no universal definition. We need to parse the terms into all of its component parts:
- Do parents disparage children?
- What is the effect of parents going through divorce , who disparage children?
- Which children are most affected by that?
- HOW are they affected?
- What are the best treatments for children who are affected?

Gender equality discussions : An unpopular opinion. A lengthy thread but would urge readers to bear with me till the end.
Latest NCRB data - # of men who died by suicide is 2.5 times the # of women. 97,613 men died by suicide in 2019 alone.

(1/n)
While the nation is still busy with #SSR ,above data didn't find a mention in any visual medium. We see tweets by women pleading for help and blaming husbands, most of which are dismissed later as false accusations, but by that point, damage is done.

(2/n)
First suspect in any negative household experience is the male. While misandry catalyzes the suicidal trend further, it doesn't help us achieve a gender neutral society. This trend needs attention and analysis of causes & potential solutions to make society gender neutral

It is absolutely crucial that we move away from the term #ParentalAlienation whenever there is disrupted child contact. The term is hugely problematic in a number of ways not least of which being the background of the controversial *theory*.
THREAD
#DomesticAbuse
#familycourt
Here is the background to Richard Gardner who originated the term: and
Reasons for WHY the term #ParentalAlienation is so problematic:

1. See thread in tweet above
2. It was a term Gardner came up with in response to what he saw as the ‘brainwashing’ of a child by the mother, to reject the father.

More on a Richard Gardner:

Gardner himself acknowledged that abusive parents claim Parental Alienation Syndrome.

It’s not my fault.

“ With increasing recognition of the PAS, a new phenomenon has developed. Specifically, parents who are truly abusive have been claiming that the children’s animosity toward them has nothing to do with their abuse but is the result of PAS programming by the other parent.

This case CLEARLY demonstrates the urgent need for a proper understanding of #coercivecontrol #parentalalienation and the reality of judicial bias in family law cases where a mother has alleged coercive control and rape by the father.

THREAD
judiciary.uk/wp-content/upl…
This is an appeal about excluding evidence in family proceedings.

The father seeks contact with children aged 5 and 2.

The mother opposes contact on the basis that the father had subjected her to extreme coercive and controlling behaviour and to sexual abuse, including rape.
The mother wanted to rely on evidence of what she believes is strikingly similar #coercivecontrol shown by the father towards his new partner.

Family Law Week: Re A (Children) (Parental alienation) [2019] EWFC familylawweek.co.uk/site.aspx?i=ed…
The background to the case is sparse but it is a case where a father has attempted to get contact with his children and it has gone on for 8 years.
In the judge’s words:

“It is a case in which a father leaves the proceedings with no contact with his children despite years of litigation, extensive professional input, the initiation of public law proceedings in a bid to support contact and many court orders.”

Richard Gardner, who developed the theory of #parentalalienation died from a particularly violent suicide.

He stabbed himself in the neck and chest several times, with a steak knife.

The last attorney to xe him called parental alienation syndrome a ‘ bogus pre-pedophilic fraud’
“ An obituary about Dr. Richard A. Gardner, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, misstated his position at Columbia University. He was a clinical professor of psychiatry in the division of child and adolescent psychiatry — an unpaid volunteer — not a professor of child psychiatry."
And the way he died by suicide is even more violent than posted above.
He stabbed himself several times in the neck and chest with a steak knife and then stabbed himself in the heart with a butchers knife.

He wanted to inflict as much pain as possible.

“Multiple submissions argued that the increasing use of the term ‘parental alienation’ could silence children.”
- If children have been alienated, then their wishes and feelings are seen as contaminated.

- A parent who is the subject of the allegation will be treated as an ‘alienator’, rather than as a protective parent with well-founded fears around abduction or violence.

Understanding Coercive Control

Part 25: Parental Alienation

To understand the prevalence of parental alienation, we first need to understand the dynamics of abuse.
THREAD
#coercivecontrol #domesticviolence #domesticabuse #parentalalienation #children #childcontact #familycourt
This isn’t a thread about whether parental alienation is coercive control or not. Alienation happens for reasons OTHER than coercive control (more of this later).
Parental alienation happens.

I personally know more mothers than fathers who have no contact with their children. I’m not saying this is an accurate reflection of society. All I’m saying is that,in my personal experience, I’m aware it happens to mothers more.

INCREDIBLE READ. This is some SCARY STUFF GUYS.

This is what inflated government and governmental overreach leads to.

They’re stealing children and people are profiting off of it. It’s real. The United States has been overrun by truly evil systematic corruption.
Imagine this being you. Your children ripped from your arms and placed in the hands of cruel, abusive people profiting off your pain.

Evil.

Adoption subsidies. Incentive for people to adopt and foster children that they have no love for. I’m sure there are exceptions to this, but it’s insane. Evil people take advantage of systems set up like this.
