A thread about infant readmissions to hospital in the UK. Prompted by a recent paper in @bmcseries #bmcpediatrics. I’ll talk thru the data & some wider issues that are the focus of debate in #infantfeeding - 1/n

bmcpediatr.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
Why is this important? Well, there is a lot of discussion going on, mainly in mass media and social media, about possible relationships between #infantfeeding policy & practice and sufficiency of #breastfeeding in the early days/weeks of life 2/n
My personal interest in this area: while having my own kids, I trained & volunteered to provide #breastfeeding support locally and continue to follow the research and evolving discussions 3/n

It’s a major conflict of interest for MDs to both prescribe &dispense meds to patients: it’s reportable to regulatory college

▶️bit.ly/2Isu71Q

If it’s considered harmful to pts &ethically wrong for MDs, why is @fordnation govt permitting it for pharmacists? 1/2 #onpoli
Cdn MDs have post-graduate training
-Family Doctor has min 10yrs of university training
-Specialist MD has min 12-16yrs of university training
-PLUS ALL MDs have thousands of hrs of hands-on clinical training

Pharmacists only complete basic 4-6yr undergraduate degree 2/2 #onpoli
IDENTICAL to regulatory body of ON MDs, College of Physicians &Surgeons of ON (CPSO), regulatory body of ON Pharmacists, ON College of Pharmacists (OCP), CLEARLY states under “#Accountability” that Pharmacists must “Avoid #ConflictOfInterest.” 3/

Now reading the the #TopolReview report - Preparing the healthcare workforce to deliver the digital future. It's an illuminating read topol.hee.nhs.uk #DigitalHealth
It's clear that a lot of effort has gone into the #TopolReview - it paints a glorious vision of what healthcare would look like over the next 20 years (for both staff and patients) - enabled by technology such as #genomics, #AI and #robotics
For me the #Topolreview has too narrow a focus. It's been commissioned by healthcare, yet we know that with an aging population, many people with long term conditions have to rely upon #socialcare as well. We need joined up thinking, imho.

This week we'll be looking at 5 key challenges affecting the #NHS & #SocialCare workforce. We want to hear YOUR views through our #TalkHealthandCare platform on how we can improve your experience working in the sector. The first challenge explores whether staff feel empowered…
🎯CHALLENGE: Staff don’t always feel in control or empowered about the decisions regarding the care they provide, leaving them feeling unsupported by their colleagues. We want to create an environment where staff can fulfil their potential. Have your say: dhscworkforce.crowdicity.com/category/29628
📊 More than 70% of staff feel their manager values their work [Source: NHS Staff Survey’17] – but we want EVERYONE to feel supported & empowered. How can we ensure this happens? Join the #TalkHealthAndCare conversation: bit.ly/2OAtDoS

Dr Murphy downloaded the @babylonhealth App & tried the #Chatbot with a few simple clinical presentations. It quickly became apparent that the #Chatbot had flaws, raising the question if the App had been validated as a triage tool?
