Big day for SAM! @KevinSabet kicked things off today with a segment on @foxandfriends discussing how NYC schools are failing at protecting student's health by only giving a warning to kids caught with marijuana instead of getting them the help they need.
Then at 11:00 CT, SAM Illinois will kick off a huge lobby day with high schools students who are concerned about marijuana legalization with a rally at the Illinois State House.
At 1:30, SAM Senior Policy Advisor @LukeNiforatos will be joined by members of the Medical Society of the State of New York, medical professionals, addiction treatment specialists, and concerned New Yorkers to deliver "Pot Packs" to legislators in Albany, NY.

Thread alert! If you want to learn more in #disabilitystudies there are a lot of open access resources. Let’s start with Disability Studies Quarterly (dsq-sds.org), one of the leading journals in the field, which is 100% open access.
Other open acces journals include Disability in the Global South (dgsjournal.org) & Review of Disability Studies (with a delay: rds.hawaii.edu)
I personally link to my articles on my website & anything that is behind a paywall I put up as soon as I’m allowed under the publishing contract. I particularly recommend the convo between @JulieMinich, Jina B. Kim & me in the open access journal Lateral.

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board instructed producers of pot-laced edibles that are appealing to kids to halt production on their products as they would be banned under new regulations taking effect in January.

Going into this year, everyone said that marijuana legalization was inevitable and that we should lay down and accept it. But SAM’s network of health and addiction recovery professionals would not give up on public health and safety so easily.
In Illinois, we worked diligently with Healthy and Productive Illinois and local leaders, including students from Adlai Stevenson High School, to defeat a bill that would have put marijuana commercialization on the ballot.
In April, HPI, SAM Action, and students held a press conference to highlight a working paper that found marijuana legalization would cost the state of Illinois upwards of $670 million, far outweighing the prospective tax revenues. bit.ly/2JeTTrg
