Some Engineering aspects of temple. Chola country is in the Kaveri delta region, full of rivers, rivulets & canals making the soil loose. Hence it is tough to find a place strong enough to hold such a big structure. Kunjaramallan did a great job in finding such a rocky place 
It is estimated that this place can hold the weight of 162 tonne per sq.KM, sufficient enough to hold the temple.
The granite stones are joined together not with any adhesives like lime, but using groove joint, interlocking joint, ball & socket joint etc.
