Thank you @AOC I would not be silenced by @RepClayHiggins so let's talk about #petrochemicals in #Louisiana that are disproportionately killing Black people, shattering climate efforts and suffocating the world in plastic and other toxics. A thread.
#Petrochemicals, which are the toxic oil and gas products used to make plastics and pesticides, are #bigoil's big bet - set to be the main consumer of crude oil by 2050 they will shatter climate efforts like the #ParisAgreement: reuters.com/business/envir…
@RepClayHiggins' Louisiana is home to 150 #petrochemical plants - they are a part of the state’s ongoing legacy of #fossilfuelracism, and are killing Black and low-income residents. theatlantic.com/culture/archiv…

Dale Nally, #ableg associate nat gas minister, now announcing the new #petrochemical program for Alberta. It'a a 10-yr, billion-dollar program, in which companies will receive grants when they build new petrochem facilities in the province. theglobeandmail.com/business/artic… #cdnpoli
Nally is very excited about this program, by the by. He says Alberta is taking action now to attract as much petrochemical investment as possible. The program starts this fall. He says it has the potential to bring 1000s jobs, billions of $ to Alberta. #ableg #cdnpoli
Nally says grants are way more attractive than royalty credits to the petrochem sector. Royalty credits have been the way successive #ableg governments have pursued investment in Alberta, btw... the PCs used them, the NDP used them too.
