Same disclaimers as last time:
1. These aren't just papers that were published in 2020. They are papers that were added to my library in 2020. Some are a little older — some are a lot older. All are interesting or exciting to me in some way.

2. I reiterate - TO ME. This list is highly subjective, and is mostly about what captured my imagination most, not about what will make the biggest impact, or what is most worth funding. The order is mostly arbitrary too. This is just for fun :)

The aim of #ProjectCoCID, led by @SiriusXT_Ltd, is to provide insights into the cellular origins of viral diseases including; hepatitis C, hepatitis E, herpesvirus and SARS-CoV-2, and to aid in the development of novel therapeutics using the company’s novel soft x-ray microscope.
@MacAnRua, said, “This project award .... allows @SiriusXT_Ltd to collaborate closely with European leaders in virology research to demonstrate the benefits of soft x-ray microscopy in progressing their understanding of pathogen infection pathways.” #ProjectCoCID
1/ Here is a proposal of how to distinguish between different, supposedly "equivalent," #orthogonal mixtures of photons. In this case, it is R + L mix of circular, to be distinguished from mixtures of linear #polarization.

I am leaving aside right here whether it could lead to #FTL communication (#SuperluminalSignalling), and focusing on the bare being able to make the distinction. Impractical - but of major theoretical importance.

We use a compound detector D for this purpose. Its first element is a quarter-wave plate with horizontal fast axis, that is rotationally free within a small angle (to allow measurement of changes in #angularmomentum of roughly a few hundred ħ, which is still very tiny.)

Some interesting stats, which are not very surprising "over 9% of respondents say they experienced harassment at meetings or events hosted by the scientific societies. Of those who experienced harassment, 63% were women." #womeninstem #womeninoptics #LGBTinSTEM #optics #photonics
I've just had a quick read but the thing that struck me most, more than the stats was the personal stories in Appendix I - sadly these are stories I've heard from friends & colleagues who have attended scientific meetings & conferences. #womeninSTEM #womeninoptics #LGBTinSTEM
