Thinking on #PolicingAct & chilling effect on democratic right to protest. Here’s a 🧵 of some MFJ demos/marches only from past 2yrs - we never asked ‘permission’, we never informed police. Now we could be prosecuted. This one is recently at Colnbrook detention centre (1/20)
Here we marched from brixton to Home Office via Serco & G4S offices -- it was a powerful, vibrant, important march led by asylum seekers, refugees & undocumented many who came to UK on promise of freedom, democracy/equality. #PolicingAct makes mockery of those principles (2/20)
Here outside the Rwandan High Commission protesting inhuman Refugee Trafficking deal. This was after passage of #PolicingAct . How many people will think twice before organising such a protest because of this Act? We can’t let them make us afraid, we must keep fighting! (3/20)

On #26January, 2021, the Indian republic completes 71 years since its formation; against the background of a global pandemic that has starkly exposed its fault lines. | @glorious_gluten
The 299 member #ConstituentAssembly was unique for there were 15 women (including a #Dalit woman Dakshini Velayudhan) who were voted to be a part of the
Committee and make their contribution to the building of the republic. #RepublicDay | @glorious_gluten

Kindly note and avoid disinformation. SARS (FSARS), SAKS & SACS are all under probation based on the national outcry by the #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG Movement. They’ve not been reformed neither did we clamor for their reformation but their disbandment & Reformation of the Police.
The sustainable reformation process of the entire Police structure will take years under a conscionable cum genuine leadership. Anyone who claims that the Police/SARS have been reformed is a raving lunatic and should be ignored. #ReformPoliceNG
From experience men with combatant training need structure & order without which they can not function effectively. Idleness bring out the need to displace the energy somehow thus the heightened crime rate of operatives starved of funds & proper engagement. They’re victims too.

The blatant display of impunity by idolaters within the @PoliceNG structure with the criminal abuse of @adeyanjudeji’s constitutionally guaranteed human rights shows the urgent need to overhaul the Current police structure. It begins with the passage of the new #PoliceAct.
This way we can begin to criminalize the influence of political despots balkanizing National Institutions to perpetuate the, selves in power and oppress perceived enemies. Those responsible for Deji’s oppression MUST lose their gratuity & be arraigned for abuse of the institution.
There is no better way of setting a deterrent like making an example of corrupt officials with no regard for the law of the land. A referendum is already loading for those who holds our democracy hostage. We must tame the @PoliceNG and sanitize our country. @NGRSenate @HouseNGR

Whether we like it or not, history will reflect that under HE President @MBuhari and the 8th National Assembly headed by HE @bukolasaraki @SPNigeria and Rt Hon @YakubDogara @NGRHouse the over 70years old constitutional impediment to progress in Law & Order was lifted #PoliceACT
How this was achieved may not matter much in the long run but do let your children know that it happened based on the activation of the power of the citizenry. Hundreds of thousands of Nigerians rose up in support of a non-aligned Movement that birthed the political will.
It also significantly marked a period in our lives when we longer leave our collective destiny solely in the hands of politicians. We are closing institutional gaps and getting involved in Nation building. Leadership has been demonstrated to be possible from wherever we are.
