These Unprecedented Times Call for Business Unusual!

These are unprecedented times. Never in our recent history, have we not had an opposition party or group to check the excesses of the Executive. @KLM_VUMA

#KongamanoLaMageuzi #PoliticalEducationKE #FagiaWote
Even during the dark days of the single-party rule of the Moi dictatorship, voices of dissent still existed, despite the constant danger of imprisonment, torture and assassination.

#KongamanoLaMageuzi #PoliticalEducationKE #FagiaWote
This is the spirit that led us to fight to end the single-party rule. It is the spirit that led us to fight for constitutional reforms and the spirit that guided our fight for electoral justice in 2007, 2013 and 2017 at huge costs.

This video was shot in 2009 shortly after the #GoK forcefully evicted Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence (PEV) from the main camps and hid them in satellite camps away from local and international media glare.
It was produced by journalists Gatũ wa Mbaria and John Njerũ with the aim of letting Kenyans know the plight of the desperate people and possibly help them.

#PoliticalEducationKE
It inspired a major initiative that brought together famous musicians, comedians and marathoners to try and help. But once again, the govt infiltrated and destroyed the initiative.

In the last financial year, Kenya paid Kshs 437b as interest on public debt.

Of this amount KShs 315b was spent on domestic debt service while Kshs 122b was spent on foreign debt service.

#PoliticalEducationKE
This despite 3.2T of public debt being domestic while 3.5T is foreign.

So 25% of our tax collection goes towards debt service.

We pay more money to service public debt than we give to counties for development.

Mali Coup, a thread:

African leaders drafted for themselves a Constitution that bans coups or if you wish to call it military take-over of power. They did it so that they stay in power for as long as they want, even against the wishes of the people.

#PoliticalEducationKE
African leaders consider the States they rule as their personal property. They employ their incompetent relatives and practice rampant theft/corruption with impunity. They subject ordinary people to untold suffering resulting in abject poverty.

#PoliticalEducationKE
They torture those they consider opponents and dissenting voices for speaking against injustices, mistreatment and unleash atrocities of all forms.

There is nothing to show for Kenya’s public debt in the past seven years. The Central Bank of Kenya put the indebtedness — Sh3.496 trillion external debt and Ksh3.153 trillion in domestic borrowing — at Sh6.649 trillion as at May.

The Covid-19 global pandemic compelled the government to borrow more.

The high public debt has led to a decline in employment opportunities, inability to provide quality services...

The unfortunate events in @Senate_KE are a very dangerous early warning signal of the open role of security forces in determining the political and public affairs trajectory in #Kenya.

#PoliticalEducationKE
The threats and intimidation to @Senate_KE due to revenue sharing basis has a serious chilling effect. It is a direct assault on the Constitution and democracy. It signals dangerous days ahead for every Kenyan.

This is no longer a Senate matter. This is coming in heels of the military takeover in Nairobi City County.

That #Covid19Millionaires report is what @RookieKE calls mshangao reporting. I don't think we are helped by being told about the size and immorality of corruption. All we do is feel helpless, especially when the people in charge are saying the cartels are big but wont name them.
If theft is so deeply embedded in the Kenyan state, and international bodies like @WorldBank @EUinKenya are sending more money knowing it will be swindled anyway, but we Kenyans will pay back the money with interest, then we have to ask ourselves: "what is Kenya for?"
To call ourselves citizens is a contradiction. Kenyans are enslaved people. Our role is to provide labor and resources for international rackets between the corrupt US and UK governments and corporations and their Kenyan puppets.

The other white pathology narrative that has confused Kenyan elites is that annoying word called "privilege."

Here goes the thread.

That story of 'privilege" makes our every day life sound like we walk around with tickets which we use to open doors.
It's like I go to an office and there's a check list:

"White? No.
Male? No.
Upper class? No.
Educated in the Roman imperial system? Yes.

Here's your place."

So you find people saying stuff like "your male privilege," "your elite privilege," "your American privilege."
But that is not how race, tribe, class and gender work. They work from loyalties, not access. So, for example, white people are asked to be loyal to the imperial aristocracy by virtue of being the same skin color as the aristocrats.

A #PoliticalEducationKE thread by Kipruto Kertiony

Once upon a time in Kenya, a child was born to Mr and Mrs Mwananchi, whom they named Wanjiku...
Wanjiku was delivered at the District hospital through what the doctors called 'caesarian section'. Mrs Mwananchi was discharged after two weeks.

#PoliticalEducationKE
His friends were surprised that Mr Mwananchi, a very thrifty man, was very happy despite spending money on buying shawls and other clothing for the baby, and hiring a taxi to take them all of 30 kms to their family seat. But those were his only expenses.

For the longest time, the British were frustrated by the Kamba. Like the Giriama, the Kamba didn't enter the cash economy. They used cattle as a medium of exchange for food, dowry and other transactions.

The colonialists came up with a plan. Destocking. #politicaleducationKE
The colonialist claimed that the Kamba had too many cattle. But more than that, in 1938, the colonial governor wrote an order commanding the Kamba to give up their cattle to a slaughter house in Athi River called Liebigs. And the Machakos DC was going to get a cut.
The order was brutal. In places like Kangundo, people were losing up to 90% of their stock. So the Kamba mobilized people to resist the order, and held a six-month sit-in to protest. The British pulled back the order because they were afraid that the struggle would turn violent.

.@MutemiWaKiama's arrest has taught me not to look at just the tribe of presidential appointments, but at the relatives. Each top government appointment is related to a colonial chief. It's no longer just tribe. It's family.

We have now graduated to the rigid class system of UK.
If defense and foreign CS Omamo is an in-law, it's not enough to look at the tribe any more. These homeguard chiefs were in all ethnic groups. It's about class first. Then tribe next.

Kumirans were the first group of fools. They were dumped for a guy they were taught to hate.
Now the education reforms have sealed this deal. And Kenyan parents won't understand until their kids are in form 6. And then they will be trying to remember -what was that activist saying in 2018?

It will be so sad.
