and degradation, a woman holds sexual power — a paradoxical line of argument if ever there was one. Woman cannot be liberated as long as her existence is bound to her ability to inspire male desire...
None of the WAP lyrics are subversive — these are standard ways to flatter men sexually. The approval of his large penis; the indication that his penis is so large that it hurts; the implication that his raw, domineering, red-blooded virility cannot be restrained;
the notion of great male strength and athleticism: all are topes which are frequently used to laud male sexual prowess. As sex has been increasingly commodified with the advent of internet pornography... the demands upon the porn market have become progressively more extreme,

I don't support attacking women for being in objectifying media. But I can't believe that at 12 years old I understood that music videos are mostly scripted, directed, produced and profited off by men & thus not an authentic expression of the artist, but we're discussing if it is
Music videos are products. They're designed to maximize clicks- not liberate women. Since I've been a kid a lot of music videos have essentially been strip shows. Let me be clear: I blame music industry moguls not the women themselves for how that screwed with me as a little girl Image
All of what @WomenReadWomen said is correct: Objectificaitom hurts women and it doesn't matter if we consent to it. The men who produce and consume this media don't view us as human beings. If it was liberating and humanising all male artist be stripping, too. It's that simple.

This pornographic ad is just 500m from a public Primary School.

Children must either walk or navigate their bikes along the pathway beside the trailer to get to and from school.

Photo taken while standing on that pathway. @OLGRQLD @YvetteDAth @justiceQLD Image
How can adults protect children from exposure to sexually explicit, sex trade advertising in these circumstances?

Cars and buses drive children to and from school past this pornographic ad. One mother reported to us that her child asked about “the dollhouse.” @OLGRQLD Image

Interesting personal story from a woman who quit porn.

“Growing up, I used porn to simply pass the time. In lockdown, I’m having to resist those urges.”

“Magazines like Cosmopolitan, in their efforts to normalise porn culture, encourage women to take ‘the plunge into porn’ in order to add fun and spice into their love lives. But these magazines aren’t our first encounter with porn:...”
“...like many girls of my generation, the Playboy pencil case accompanied me on my first day of high school, my pre-pubescent self? blissfully unaware of the cute bunny emblem’s significance.”

"[Porn] contains a lot of violence against women. It's terribly racist. If you look at mainstream porn, it's terribly misogynist.

"[Yet] pornography equals sex has become just such a cultural staple." - @DrMeaganTyler

.@DrMeaganTyler told ABC that porn has become normalised in our society and the demand for "ethical porn" was part of that.

"Why is [there a] desperation for there to be an ethical porn, rather than the question of what would sexuality look like without pornography now?"
"In a post #metoo era if we're really talking about sharing equal sexual relations between men & women I cannot see the porn industry is part of that.”

"You can't say you're pro-Me Too and pro women's consent & still masturbate to material that fundamentally subordinates women."
