Thread on why we have lodged an objection with Namibia's Environmental Commissioner regarding #ReconAfrica's planned 2D seismic surveys criss-crossing #elephant migration corridors across the Kavango regions of Namibia.

Our objection is coupled with a plea to employ the #precautionary principle to protect the largest cross-border #elephant herd from the harmful actions linked not only to seismic surveying but also from the ongoing exploratory #oil and #gas #drilling in #Namibia.
Seismic surveys help locate oil and gas reservoirs. It takes place by laying receptors called geophones along either a line (2D) or in a grid (3D) and detonating an explosive device, then recording the various soundwaves that are picked up by the geophones. Image: RBS

#BillGates's #mosquito technological (naive) intervention, is a very bad idea, that I think emerges from the #Anthropocene framework. Thats why I has been pushing #Technocene instead, bc it tends to induce a more #precautionary approach:

SNEAK PREVIEW: Complete Path Enumeration (CPE) for CRM #dosefinding designs

Featuring a vignette for #Rstats package #precautionary update v0.2-3, currently under review by CRAN. 1/

This demonstrates the feasibility of a programme I’ve set forth, for the ‘exact’ simulation of ANY dose-escalation design.

Influenced by @MarkusTriska‘s exacting perspective on ’exactness’, however, I now use the more precise term ‘MCSE-free’. 2/
@MarkusTriska ‘MCSE-free’ in turn alludes to the title of recent work by Thomas M. Braun, from which I adapt my application.

(Braun’s mean-field approach truly can be called ‘simulation-free’, whereas I DO simulate the trials—just without Monte Carlo error.) 3/

NEW #DTAT paper: What Were They Thinking? Pharmacologic priors implicit in a choice of 3+3 dose-escalation design arxiv.org/abs/2012.05301

“The unexamined trial is not worth conducting.”

— Socrates 1/

This latest #DTAT paper @arXiv sets out to reverse-engineer the unstated (∴ unexamined!) pharmacologic intuitions that underlie the #trialsafety claim implicit in the decision to conduct a dose-escalation trial. 2/
Prior elicitation from doctors has never been easy, especially about #pharmacology or the future of the #Daleks: 3/

New #rstats package #precautionary now on CRAN CRAN.R-project.org/package=precau…

“The shaft of the arrow had been feathered with one of the eagle’s own plumes. We often give our enemies the means of our own destruction.”

[THREAD] 1/
By unifying several categories of dose-escalation design under a single simulation framework, @CatchTwentyToo’s neat #escalation package has greatly facilitated the development of package #precautionary. 2/

@CatchTwentyToo My initial experiments toward #precautionary began by cloning his #escalation sourcecode, then — following the plan I had intimated in a 2018 letter desk-rejected by @CCR_AACR — “changing just one line of simulation code”: pubpeer.com/publications/4… 3/ Image
