We’ve been exploring the National Register of Historic Places, the official list of the nation’s historic properties worthy of preservation. We’ve looked at the earliest buildings up through the 1880s. Now onto the 1890s: a time of architectural blossoming in Milwaukee:

Made this 4-flap enclosure for a book with loose newspaper clippings inside it. It’s a 4-flap wrapper with a pocket on one flap. Velcro tabs.

I think this was a good solution to keep all together…

On the banks of Vennar River, in the districts of Thanjavur, lies a small village called Kallaperumbur, home to two temples of antiquity - Brihannayaki Sametha Kailasanathar (A Shiva Temple) and the Varadaraja Perumal (A Vishnu Temple). (1/6)
With the inscriptions found in the dilapidated gopuram of the Shiva Temple (Image 2), we can trace back this temple to the period of Kulottunga Chola of the 12th /13th century. (2/6)
The Temple is a vast complex with sanctums for the Parivara Daivatas including Nruthi, Vinayagar, Subhramnaya and a separate sanctum outside the main complex for the Goddess. A small niche on the outer walls of the Maha Mandapa has a sculpture of Natraja and Parvati. (3/6)

The real heroes who deserve to be celebrated are the skilled crafts communities integral to #preservation #conservation of #heritage #sites #monuments and #museums across the world. These are photos from the #NalandaUniversity, a #UNESCO #WorldHeritageSite in #Bihar in 2013
Here, when we had gone on a research trip as the Bihar Museum #design team, we had found #craftsmen making bricks and sculptures to help in the restoration of the 1500 year old site. We thought this was extremely imp as the process was similar ImageImageImageImage
I had suggested that this process be filmed and displayed as part of ‘continuing traditions’ in the new Museum. Thankfully, this was accepted and a film has been made 😊
...
Thank you the real heroes, we salute you for your skill and hard work, not just today but everyday 🙏🏽

So @PuckBrandGaming got us a shared Christmas gift for us at McKay’s in Greensboro, NC: a full size reel-to-reel player! Now we can archive my grandad’s old TV/radio recordings! 1/6 @Foone @textfiles @lazygamereviews
He was an Army Air Corps SSgt specializing in RADAR/Radio Tech. Once home he figured out how to wire his reel-to-reel into the TV so my grandmother wouldn’t miss her stories if she had to work! Audio only but better than nothing since NO RERUNS back then. 2/6
