Using restraints in medicine by highly trained physicians and nurses is strictly regulated because of the inherent risks it poses to patient safety.

The police are being trained in restraint techniques that are lethal.

Where’s the oversight?
As a trauma surgeon, part of my job is outreach and prevention of traumatic injuries.

This is a #preventable cause of death. We would call this a #sentinelevent if it happened in a hospital setting.

And there would be many people to answer to.

So why are we quiet about it?
#ICantBreathe is a medical emergency

#systemicracism is a public health crisis

The medical community is obligated to address this.
