okay something's been bugging me...a #FacDev thread...
I would argue that #FacDev is a huge area of opportunity in #HigherEd (or we could say it's completely broken-you choose).
This is data from the first #OLCAccelerate session I attended yesterday from the neuromyths study that @BrianCDelaney, @MDMillerPHD, & Kristen Betts shared. Obviously there are concerns across the board here, but I work with faculty.

A little thread on my take on #profdev and #facdev for trauma awareness in #HigherEd...
1-I am increasingly intentional about using the language of trauma awareness over trauma informed. Here's why:…
Forget the numbers. I'll screw them up. Anyway, the Missouri Model is something I rely on to articulate to organizations and leaders that we don't become trauma-informed overnight or after a one-hour workshop.

A thread on our upcoming workshop on facilitating live, online sessions (aka running a Zoom). @CleaMahoney and I are offering this through @OLCToday August 19-21.

I'm hearing about a lot of folks who are going to be leaning heavily on synchronous teaching elements this fall. Please support those educators by providing them quality #profdev on HOW to do this work.

Our workshop will not only model two styles of facilitation (informal and formal), but we'll also help you decide WHEN to use synch methods vs. asynch alternatives. Remember, synchronous is the ketchup; asynch is the burger.

#Highered and fellow #pedagogygeeks, in the spirit of talking about teaching and learning, the heart of our work, and not just fall planning insanity, a thread on boredom and attention:
I've been thinking lately that #highered has a boredom problem. AND, it also has a "fill up every space and leave no time for contemplation and reflection" problem. Been chewing on this and would love to know your thoughts.

One of John Medina's brain rules: We don't pay attention to boring things.

(01/42) Glad to be a part of #HCTwitterConf19 today! Hi, I'm Sherri Helwig - @CanadianAAAE President, faculty at the University of Toronto Scarborough @UTSC @UofT and Queen's University @queensu - here to expound a bit about better connecting academia and practice in my field.
(02/42) My field is arts management (aka arts admin, cultural mgt, etc.), a relatively young area of study about work that was "professionalized" only in the last 3/4 century or so - though I suspect and hope the ideas here are relevant and applicable in many areas of #HigherEd.
(03/42) In other professional disciplines (#law, #medicine) there is a rich tradition of sharing innovations across the divide. In #business there are academic journals, practice-based materials, & important resources that span them like The Harvard Business Review @HarvardBiz.
