This is a common question... one that needs an answer specifically designed for the US's geography.

IMO this is the best way to handle it.

Each of the 4 regional conferences mimic what we roughly think of as college conference sized geographic footprints.

They guarantee representation for the entire country.

They qualify teams for the "champions league style" Super League that is a national competition
This now gives us best vs best from each region running concurrently with the regional conferences

Lots of regional rivalries... something to compete for... the ability for the largest cities in the US to host multiple big clubs without it blowing up the system for everyone else

Hey, Taylor. Community-based, volunteer-driven club checking in.

A few thoughts:
First, our registration fees range from only $450-$850 per player (depending on the age) for a six-month program.

We say “only” because a couple of our in-state competitors have been charging anywhere from 3x-5x that amount.

Still, we’d love to charge even less, but bills.
You know one way we could probably reduce registration fees? We could compete in an open system with #ProRelForUSA, which would help us attract more investors and sponsors. But to the best of our knowledge, you don’t support such a system.

Financially MLS teams have zero incentive to run good academies.

They can acquire young players without having to pay compensation to the developing club, they have a draft, American MLS players are severely contractually restricted, and there is no punishment for being bad.
Developing good young players in house is a positive in top leagues where salaries are high because the players are less expensive.

MLS teams pay American players low salaries and they do not have transfer fees attached to them...
Why spend big money developing players when comparable players with the same salary costs are available with zero transfer free on the player marketplace?

If you arent super confident that you can make money selling pre-Academy slots to parents to turn a profit on the system...

The term "recreational" soccer was created by people who didnt want the sport to be as competitive as the traditional American sports.

It was intentional.

"Travel" soccer was created by those who wanted to take it serious.

It was coopted by those who saw they could $ off it
Every level of soccer governance has failed when it comes to the children who play the game in this nation.

"Rec soccer" is used as a pejorative nationally.

Basically every single player starts in some sort of "rec" program.

If you take "rec" too serious you are ostracized
"Why dont you go play club?"
"This isnt what rec is for!"
"Why are you so serious?"

Well... the kids deserve the best that we can offer them no matter who they play for first and foremost.

That is a fact.

For those around #ProRelforUSA #AUnitedFront #ReformUSSF

The concerns about MLS owners & USSF, etc. favoring (white supremacist) fascists and European Christian right politics are unfortunately more valid than many had thought it was.

There are reasons why it's the case structurally. Some of it has to do with single entity structure but there are broader things that take from the sports business concentration issue (and monopoly in general).
The first is that with some failures in the last major anti-monopoly push (and the only modern one that worked), pro sports promotions were able to use market power to sting competitors in their own sports (or force mergers).

THREAD: Healthy things grow. (The bad news... unhealthy things like cancer often grow as well.)

When surveying US Soccer, it is clear that the current system does not produce natural environments for players, coaches, & clubs to prosper.
2. The DNA of the USSF system is fragmentation, segmentation, & isolation. Instead of US Soccer working collectively as a ‘sum of its parts,’ the USSF system works independently or in many cases works against other members. We’re left with silos & a convoluted mess.
3. Much of what occurs in US Soccer is upside down & backwards.
