Gov says it wants to build back better – but the road map does nothing to #ProtectEveryone already left behind.

We’ve teamed up with expert charities, NGOs + lawyers to present a new way forward that supports people to stay safe:

THE PROTECT EVERYONE BILL
We’ll only get through this pandemic if we #ProtectEveryone without exception.

In a few weeks MPs can reject Gov's Coronavirus Act – which has stripped away rights and left people behind.

And they can replace it with the Protect Everyone Bill.

We agree with the Prime Minister that we all are in the fight against #COVID19 pandemic together!

Migration status, religion of the patient or social status is and must be irrelevant to every human being’s dignity and their right to live.

🧵🔽
TV news channels & social media users in India who are demonising Muslims or any other communities must understand that this can lead to stigma & adversely impact public health.

They must heed @PMOIndia & stop blaming the Muslim community for the spread of the #COVID19 pandemic.

1: Yesterday, as thousands of stranded migrants gathered at #Surat & #Mumbai, it was a bleak reminder that the needs of the most marginalized remain an afterthought in designing responses to the pandemic by those in power.
2: As the Government of India extends the nation-wide lockdown, the authorities must remember that the battle against #COVID19 must not leave behind the poor & marginalized.

3: @AIIndia reminds the Central & state govts to widen the access to social security, safety & protection & ensure that people’s basic needs are immediately met, including adequate shelter, food, water & sanitation.

The fight against #COVID19 must be inclusive.

With no targeted relief by the government so far, except in Kerala, the #transgendercommunity in India is facing discrimination even in our fight against #COVID19.

On International #TransgenderDayOfVisibility, we call for more inclusive measures from the government. Image
The #COVIDー19 pandemic has heightened prejudices against #transgender persons, making it even more difficult for them to access food supplies, medicines or approach the authorities for help. Many also fear eviction from their homes. #TransgenderDayOfVisibility #ProtectEveryone Image
With understaffed, over-worked public hospitals, there is a concern around the accessibility to Antiretroviral therapy (ART) that HIV+ patients need each month. The anxiety is aggravated by a #lockdown that makes it difficult to reach #hospitals. #TransDayOfVisibility #COVIDー19 Image

1: We welcome the Maharashtra & Delhi Govt orders to release undertrial & convict prisoners. This is a progressive step to #protecteveryone in times of a global health crisis & in line with the recent Supreme Court judgement & intnl human rights standards. deccanherald.com/national/west/…
2: According to the National Crime Record Bureau, 2 out of 3 prisoners in India are #undertrials, i.e. individuals who are awaiting trial, without having been convicted of a crime.
3: @AIIndia's earlier #JusticeUnderTrial report highlighted that many are poor migrant labourers who come from marginalised communities.

How to reduce healthcare worker exposure and flatten our #COVID curve
This is what we’re doing w/ OBGYN faculty and residents
1. Separate providers: Inpatient & Outpatient
2. Divide in 2 teams: Active Duty (in person care) and Reserve Duty (Virtual), rotate on 2 wk basis (1/4)
3. Cluster L&D shifts: Same day team and same night team over several consecutive days
4. If pairing or teams, always pair/team the same people together and replace them as a team if one becomes ill (2/4)
5. Mandate each person wipe down the work station/keybboard before each shift and sanitize hands regularly – multiple users at computer stations is unavoidable across a day
6. Enforce social distancing by removing/re-arranging furniture in common areas (3/4)
