Welcome back! We’re going into the fourth hour of @BOEM’s hearing on its 2023-2028 offshore drilling plan, which includes up to 10 lease sales in the Gulf and one in Alaska. We’re tweeting live to hear why folks are calling in to #ProtectOurCoast & ask for #NoNewLeases.
@BOEM Juliana is from northern NJ, and reminds us that climate change has impacts across the country--like when the NY subway flooded. She calls for #NoNewLeases.
@BOEM Rev. James VanderWeele lives in Louisiana & is here to represent his grandchildren across the U.S.: What will climate change do to them? Will it force them to move?

Every greenhouse gas molecule increases #globalwarming. This is a moral crisis that will impact our grandchildren

Starting now: @BOEM hearing about the future of offshore drilling in the Gulf & U.S. oceans.

We’re calling on @Interior @POTUS to #ProtectOurCoast and stop drilling leasing as soon as possible. Join us to hear from advocates, community leaders & more for #NoNewLeases.
@BOEM @Interior @POTUS Peter, a Texas resident is talking about how hot the summer’s been in San Antonio--and how that means we need to tackle #climatechange with renewable energy such as offshore wind, not offshore drilling.
@BOEM @Interior @POTUS Now, our national partner @EnvAm’s Ian Giancarlo is highlighting how transporting oil to shore can lead to spills--like last year’s Huntington Beach spill. We need #NoNewLeases so we can stop investing in this dirty, dangerous infrastructure.

Today marks the 12th anniversary of the BP #DeepwaterHorizon disaster, which saw millions of gallons of oil gush into the Gulf of Mexico, oiling seabirds, sea turtles and more. 1/
Over a decade later, we’re still seeing the impacts of this spill in our ocean 🐬 and in our communities. 2/ courthousenews.com/damage-from-de…
But catastrophic oil spills aren’t the only risk that comes from offshore drilling. The infrastructure needed to bring the oil to shore and process it poses an ongoing threat to coastal ecosystems & communities. 3/

Today I voted YES on the Protecting and Securing Florida’s Coastline Act (H.R. 205) and The Coastal and Marine Economies Protection Act (H.R. 1941) to #ProtectOurCoast from offshore drilling.
These bills are a direct rejection of this administration’s handouts to corporate polluters.

Trump has surrounded himself with big oil allies & now he’s trying to open up some of the most vulnerable stretches of our coastline to drilling. Enough is enough!
The bottom line is that Americans don’t want more offshore drilling. We’ve seen what happens with catastrophies like the BP spill that went on for months & spewed 200 million gallons of oil onto our beaches.

It’s time to #ProtectOurCoasts and put #PeopleOverPolluters.

Not only must we fight back against President Trump and the fossil fuel lobbyists running the EPA, we must also pursue a bold clean energy agenda in Massachusetts and across the country. #EarthDay
The fight for the future of the Earth rests on our country transitioning away from dirty fossil fuels. We are still in court defending the #CleanPowerPlan and our booming clean energy economy. #EarthDay
The move to electric vehicles in Massachusetts was supercharged by our record-setting multi-million-dollar settlement with VW over the company's massive emissions fraud. #EarthDay

We are suing to stop the Trump Administration from opening the Atlantic Coast to oil and gas drilling.

This lawsuit is about ensuring we never see a Deepwater Horizon tragedy or any oil and gas drilling off the shores of Massachusetts. #ProtectOurCoast Image
Our country must focus on expanding our clean energy economy, not lock in decades of dirty and dangerous emissions that put our fishing families and conservation work at risk.

And we have an obligation to protect this planet for the next generation. #ProtectOurCoast

8 years after the 2010 BP #DeepwaterDisaster that killed 11 people and dumped nearly 5 million barrels of oil into the Gulf, the Trump administration is recklessly setting the stage for the next deadly offshore oil tragedy. #ProtectOurCoast nrdc.org/onearth/trump-…

The #DeepwaterDisaster tarred hundreds of miles of beaches, inflicted billions of dollars in economic damages on communities, and changed the ecosystem of the northern Gulf of Mexico.

has taken Florida off the table for offshore drilling 5 hours after meeting with .@FLGovScott.

We all know, Mar-a-Lago is on the coast of Florida. This is no coincidence.

Other coastal state governors are now requesting a “meeting.”

2/The offshore drilling plan is opposed by both Dem and GOP Governors of nearly every single coastal state.

🚨Again: HALF of these governors are Republicans.🚨
