1/3 Younger age groups make up a larger % of recent #COVID19 cases in 🇨🇦. Younger age groups may be going out more, which ↑ likelihood of coming into contact with the virus. No-one is immune to serious illness & anyone can spread infection.
canada.ca/en/public-heal…
2/3 #PublicHealth measures have helped to drive national cases counts ↓ across all age groups, with the steepest declines observed among the oldest age groups at higher risk of severe outcomes. #ProtecttheVulnerable #KeepItUp!
3/3 A top priority for Canadians of all ages must be to keep #COVID19 away from older adults and other high-risk populations. We can’t prevent every death but WE MUST PREVENT EVERY DEATH WE CAN. #ProtecttheVulnerable

1/4 #COVID19 key concerns in 🇨🇦: With slowed epidemic growth & the Victoria Day long weekend upon us, getting outside is top of mind. At the same time, many Canadians are concerned about how we can go out safely. This is a reasonable concern.
2/4 As we continue down the curve, there are lessons to be learnt from other countries that are ahead of us on this path. Move too soon, relax too much & COVID-19 will come back. #COVID19 is still active in many areas of 🇨🇦, so we must remain vigilant.
3/4 The reality is that #COVID19 is still spreading in some areas and it will be with us for the foreseeable future. So as local authorities continue to slowly reopen recreational, social, & economic spaces, the right & safest way to go out is to go OUT SMART. #OutSmartEpidemics

1/8 Today my remarks focus on the disproportionate impacts and severe outcomes of #COVID19 on seniors. It’s hard to calculate the hardships endured and the grief that remains for those we’ve lost. #OlderAdults
2/8 Prevention & control of #COVID19 in high-risk populations is crucial for controlling this & future pandemic waves. These outbreaks drive up the case fatality rate, accelerate spread, & continue to spillover into the community.
3/8 But it is older adults who bear the brunt of #COVID19. Though an estimated 20% of COVID-19 cases in Canada are linked to long-term care homes, over 80% of all deaths are among seniors residing in these settings. #ProtecttheVulnerable
