I’m unable to find a news article on this from any source I trust, so let’s talk about Maya Forstater and what today’s news means for trans people. 🧵
Maya Forstater is a British cis woman who filed a lawsuit when she was fired from her job for constant, truly vile anti-trans commentary directed largely at trans women. Her lawsuit was filed against the Center for Global Development.
The basis behind Forstater's lawsuit is that she claims her firing was a violation of free speech laws. This means that this case is much larger than her alone. The outcome of this case determines whether or not anti-trans rhetoric is legally classified as protected speech.

For those who may believe trans women’s hyper visibility is in any way a benefit or a privilege; many of these anti-trans bills very specifically legislate against trans women. Being made into a cultural bogeyman is in no way a privilege.
These bills will be weaponized to hurt all trans people (and cis people as well), make no mistake. But the face that transphobes put on the “trans issue” is the face of a trans woman. We, as a broader community, need to do more to #ProtectTransWomen.
I don’t personally talk a lot about trans feminine people or trans women not because their experiences aren’t important or relevant to trans discussion, but because I am not a transfemme and the last thing they need is to be spoken over about their own experiences.

Tw eugenics, queer phobia, violence, medical abuse

The curious thing about anti-queer eugenics is that they will never actually work; being queer is not heritable or contagious. Anti-queer eugenics attempts operate on the false belief that we can be eliminated.
These crusades never succeed at eliminating queer people (it’s not possible, we will always be born into every population); but they do succeed at driving us into hiding. For the perpetrators of these actions, that is often good enough.
They often argue that this is “proof” that they’ve eliminated the “evil influence” or that queer people chose to be queer all along.
You can’t eliminate us. You can only make us suffer from your cruelty.

Hey idk which cis “ally” needs to hear this, but it is literally never acceptable to out someone as trans without their consent.
Also outing someone as trans to “prove” how progressive you are, no matter who they are, is selfish and dangerous. It is not allyship in any capacity.
Also telling anyone a trans person’s deadname without their explicit consent, for any reason, is an act of transphobia. No exceptions.
