This is beautiful!
This little #manuscript seems to be written by a regular, non-professional, member of the Jewish community of Fustat, Egypt, about 1000 years ago.
They made a little shorthand manuscript of #Psalms, for their own personal use. Image
This person knew the Psalms pretty well, so could abbreviate most of the words by chopping off the last letter or two (which seems more impressive when you remember that #Hebrew words tend to be short: say, 2-6 letters in the main).
This little snippet is from Psalm 9: 17-18.

But here, the writer's knowledge of the book of Psalms has actually led them astray...

Do you see the line in the image with lots of dots over all the letters? Those are erasure dots: (s)he wants, in effect, to cross out that line.

Day 1 #OfGodandMe
I was brought up as an Anglican. My mother worshipped regularly in the local Parish Church. Initially I went to Sunday School. My only memory of this is the song which was taken during the collection every week which started "Hear the pennies dropping"

When I was almost 8 I joined the Parish Church Choir. The main services were Morning & Evening Prayer. I can date my lifelong love of the #Psalms from this time. I didn't understand every word of the 16th century English, but the imagery and passion inspired me even then.

My love of music grew at this time. I played both recorder and piano. Music has enriched every part of my life especially my faith life. I have been exposed to many sorts of music. I don't like them all equally, but all have enriched me in different ways.

Attend, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

I will open my mouth in parables: I will utter propositions from the beginning.

When [God] slew them, then they sought him (Ps77:1,2,34 #HolyMass #Sep14 #ExaltationoftheCross) ~ DouayRheims #Bible
2. And they remembered that God was their helper: and the most high God their Redeemer.

And they loved him with their mouth:

and with their tongue they lied unto him:

but their heart was not right with him:

nor were they counted faithful in his covenant. (Ps77:35-37) #God
3. But he is merciful, and will forgive their sins: and will not destroy them. (Ps77:38 #HolyMass #Sep14 #ExaltationoftheCross) ~ DouayRheims #Bible #BibleVerses #Psalms #God #psalmappreciationday #PsalmADay #PsalmOfTheDay #Christianity #ChristiansOnTwitter

ST AIDAN OF LINDISFARNE - 31st AUGUST

~thread~
1. Aidan was a native of Ireland, (then called Scotland) and a monk of Hij, the monastery which St Columba had founded. He was received by king Oswald, who bestowed on him the isle of Lindisfarne.

2. Of his humility and piety Bede gives an edifying account, and proposes him as an excellent pattern for succeeding bishops and clergymen to follow.

He obliged all who travelled with him either to read the scriptures, or in learning the psalms by heart. #Psalms #Bible #StBede
3. By his actions he showed that he neither sought nor loved the good things of this world.

Bede admires his apostolic liberty in reproving the proud and the great, his love of peace, charity, continence, humility, and all other virtues.

March 2011, I'd lost everything & was living in my car. I pulled into a library parking lot, cried out to God. I asked Him to rescue me or kill me. I heard, "Read the #Psalms." I'd read them before. Yes, all 150. Several times, but I didn't argue about those instructions.
Even though I'd read through the whole #Bible several times before, I didn't argue because I knew my answer had to be in there if that's where He sent me. I read through The Psalms like a maniac and in 7 days, 7 days, I had a whole new outlook on life and my current situation.
I realized during that time God sent me to Himself. To #Jesus, The Word Made Flesh, not to my #church, someone at my church or any person. My #deliverance could only come from Him because what I really needed was deeper than just #money for housing.

He delivered me alright.

Here is a thread from my Covenant & Conversation essay on #Nitzavim called "Not Beyond the Sea". You can read it at bit.ly/2lDoxzZ, listen to it at bit.ly/2mHceCQ, or download the accompanying Family Edition at bit.ly/2lNnkpI. #shabbatshalom
The beauty of #Jewish #spirituality is precisely that in #Judaism, #God is close. You do not need to climb a mountain or enter an ashram to find the Divine Presence.
It is there around the table at a #Shabbat meal, in the light of the candles and the simple #holiness of the Kiddush wine and the challot, in the praise of the Eishet Chayil and the #blessing of #children, in the #peace of mind that comes when you leave the #world to look after…
