1/9 Identification of "meaningful change" is a key area when working w patient-reported outcomes. Nevertheless, this seems to be another area of applied #psychometrics / #statistics where rituals may have replaced understanding & deliberate practice.

🧵 w some QLR-promotion😊😅
2/9 w QLR's special issue on "Methodologies & Considerations for Meaningful Change" (under #peerreview) we wanted to initiate a more deliberate approach, now rolled out to any paper submitted aiming to make a methodological contribution to this area👇

3/9 An area of concern are discussions around different indices, in particular for classifying intra-individual change: depending on interpretation/ use case, they are all likely not appropriate as they are based on between-indiv variation.

Progress is then not even incremental.

If you would like a quick FFI/BFI [OCEAN] profile for yourself, go to measureyourpersonality.com/q/welcome.php
and use access code 57562353. Be honest in your responses. Psychometric tool developed at King's College London [Neurobiology of Personality].
DM me for clarifications/interpretation.
Your personal details will not be required - just basic demographic on gender and age. Report pdf can be downloaded after completing the test. Time needed: 5 mins.
Basic factors used are the 5 from the FFI. Statistically Valid tool, tried and tested, strong construct validity.
Don't over analyse the report. Take what's useful for u fm in there. There r strong correlations of some of the factors from the 5 to propensity for affective disorders - but those are indicative AND NOT CLINICAL. So restrict the interpretation to propensities [not diagnostics]

Here's my internship paper with Francis Tuerlinckx on #measurement/#psychometrics of affect & #ESM using graded-response #IRT.
The main finding:
The state & trait latent constructs of affect—contrary to the common belief—are essentially different.
Summary in 9 tweets:
#THREAD 1/9
Nonergodicity has been heavily ignored in psychology. In the intro we give an extensive historical overview of how this has troubled our idiographic (person-centered) and nomothetic (~individual differences) understanding in psychology—and the way people have tried to fix it.
2/9
In #ESM, sum-scores of PANAS-like positive & negative items are used as constructs of affect—but is that a valid decission?
To account for non-normality (& to allow nonlinearity & check latent nonmonotonicity), we used graded-response item response theory for factor analysis.

Last year, @NIMH_RDoC @NIMH commissioned a report from us @McLeanHospital (w/ @DanielGDillon @JustinBakerMD @laurenrutterr) re digital cognitive assessments for field test use, from >300k TestMyBrain participants. That report is now available! psyarxiv.com/dcszr/
Key findings: First, (1) *RELIABILITY IS A MAJOR ISSUE*, particularly for tasks from basic science / experimental traditions, built for detecting within person diffs and where reliability for between person is rarely reported. #psychometrics <- probably not trending
Second, (2) measures of negative valence / emotion (e.g. threat processing) and positive valence (e.g. reward sensitivity) usually not built for large-scale mobile assessment: technically, psychometrically, or re engagement - important for projects like @AllofUsResearch
