1. The #artistsontwitter community is amazingly talented. I've supported many fan-run Kickstarters for artbooks. Now publishers are now getting in on it. Sadly fan artists who are not contract-savvy are open to exploitation...
2. I've seen a lot of tweets about an upcoming themed fan art book to be printed by an indie publisher. They set up a Kickstarter & raised over $160,000. Some artists were invited to create art for the book & subs were opened for everyone else.
3. To submit, artists were required to send in a completed work of art & wait to see if they were selected.
If selected they would not be paid a cash fee.
They would get a (insert drumroll...)
Free book, and of course, Kudos. (Whoop)🙌🙌🙌

Imagine a children’s picture book based on #Darnton’s communication circuit (with a twist). This is what it would look like. A thread.
The plot is fairly simple. A kid buys a book and wants to express her gratitude to its maker, which she’ll soon realise is much easier said than done. First stop is at the bookshop where she buys the book in question.
She tracks down the author and thanks her for writing it. “Don’t thank me” she replies. “I wrote the story but others made the actual book” (shout-out to Roger Stoddard). “Thank the one who made the book.”

Ooh, it's the 213th birthday of #EdgarAllenPoe. Which means it's a great time to share these Poe-inspired drawings I did a few years back. I read a Poe story a night, and did an #illustration the next day.

First up: "The Tell-Tale Heart"

1/
Here's an #illustration of my favorite #EdgarAllanPoe short story, "The Cask of Amontillado"

2/
The #illustration I did for #EdgarAllenPoe's "The Masque of the Red Death" was probably my favorite of the series.

1/ So what did we learn from #launch week

Doesn't matter how hard you have prepped and worked, things will go wrong. Things that you didn't even anticipate or expect.

When that happens, focus on the things you can control and fix. Don't have a melt down. It will get sorted.
2/ The run up to launch week. Give yourself time.

Started thinking about the launch in Dec. Got shot down due to work and Covid-19. Restarted again in April. Locked down July date in first week of June.

Seems like a lot but you will need the time. There is lots to do.
3/ Get the #book out in front of #reviewers.

Early. Like real early. Like 8 to ten weeks early. Listen to their feedback and comments.

Unlike a #publisher, in self #publishing mode, you can change stuff all the way to launch. Try not to do that.

Lock a version down early.
