Are ministers rowing back from well publicised plans to improve internet safety in Britain? Are they running scared of upsetting @realDonaldTrump post Brexit? A short thread…
2. First a re-cap: after years of loud but largely meaningless rhetoric, @DCMS published its Online Harms white paper in April. It proposed that all major social media platforms be made subject to a new "statutory duty of care" covering a wide range of net-related harms:
3.The concept, developed by @willperrin and Lorna Woods of @EssexLawSchool via the @CarnegieUKTrust , is a clever one. Crucially, it regulates outcomes rather than inputs, thus avoiding the need to codify the day-to-day work of tech firms - something all agree is impossible

This is a huge statement: the state crown sits apart from the monarch, like a decapitated royal head. HM chose not to wear it, not because of its weight, but because she rejects @BorisJohnson’s corrupt government; she clearly regards it as illegal & illegitimate THREAD
Elizabeth II is not known for demonstrative gestures, so when she declines to wear the state crown on the ultimate state occasion, it has to be read as being highly symbolic. The Crown is the symbol of royal authority; by not wearing it she refuses to legitimise this government
It is really is a huge deal! #QueensSpeech

Now we await the Bill itself, expected tomorrow.…
@VGravey @CharlieBEU @aglawfoodie Just as an example, there is discussion of improving air quality, but no mention of the Air Quality Directive or the UK's struggles in meeting its limits.
@VGravey @CharlieBEU @aglawfoodie The "new long term domestic environmental governance", including the Office for Environmental Protection, is being established in large part to replace EU governance of environmental law through the European Commission, ECJ.

But these are not mentioned.

‘My government (the bastards)...’
Love the bit where Labour and Tory frontbenchers make light chatter for the cameras. ‘Started any parliamentary coups lately, prime minister?’
