This is not okay. On Monday, the day before our local election, Starbucks branches will be hosting voting events in their stores, urging customers to vote for "public safety" candidates (read: conservatives), and basically threatening to shut down stores if they aren't elected.
What is really terrifying here is not that Starbucks is exploiting its influence with customers to sway a local election. What is most troubling is this was originally printed in a LETTER TO EMPLOYEES, in essence threatening their job security if a progressive council is elected.
In essence, they are making them choose between progressive candidates who will fight for the working class, supporting things like a living wage, and corporate conservative ones who will continue making Seattle unaffordable to the working class folks who staff their cafes.
