1. "The #Pandemic will pass...But in geographic terms, today’s Covid-precipitated crises may well prove to be the most transformative event that #America has experienced since the great migration to the suburbs after World War II."

Today our team @hope4college releases the largest national survey conducted during the pandemic.

For #RealCollege community members, you’ll note this is our 6th annual report.

So what’s new? What surprised me? What now? A 🧵

Full report:…
Let’s start with #COVID. It has deeply affected #RealCollege students.

13% of these 200K students lost a loved one. Twice as many among Latinx students.

Whatever the “return to college” looks like, it’s going to be marked by trauma.
Many, including our team, have been calling for increased #mentalhealth supports for years and years— particularly for #communitycollege students.

Listen to the students in our latest data— now is the time to invest👇🏻

2/ A: In the interview linked to below, Reggie Jackson, Head Griot of America's Black Holocaust Museum, describes 4 discriminatory housing policies and practices common in the first half of the 20th Century.…
3/ Note that all of these were completely legal up until the Fair Housing Act of 1968--just 52 years ago. These practices and policies played a major role in creating the patterns of racial segregation seen today in Milwaukee and many other U.S. cities.

Still processing the powerful discussion we had today in our #MA @ARUSociology session on #DecolonisingtheUniversity. A student shared her experiences of growing up in apartheid South Africa & feeling validated & 'seen' by the reading material. Became emotional as she talked
about how #apartheid affected her secondary & higher education in South Africa. Another shared his experiences of racism & racial abuse at his place of work in London, and how he'd envisioned a different kind of life in the UK when he migrated from Nigeria three years
ago. A third talked about being British in Zimbabwe and how her family had tried to convince her that the 'whites' were there to help the 'black people' and how she learnt to resist the 'civilising' narrative of #empire. A fourth discussed how her godfather rolled his eyes at her
