I know it's Friday afternoon, but I can't stop playing with the new #reInvent2019 features 🤯

Next up: Amazon Athena’s federated queries ❤️

This new feature allows you to query ANY data source and integrate it with your data lake!

[Thread]
First, you connect a Data Source: DynamoDB, DocumentDB, Redshift, CloudWatch Logs, CloudWatch Metrics, Hbase, MySQL, PostgresSQL, Redis, or even custom sources!
The connectors are open-sourced on Github here 👉 github.com/awslabs/aws-at…

So you just deploy a connector once (per region/account) via the Serverless Application Repository (SAR) ⚡

#reInvent2019 thoughts:
1. AWS is the best choice for most organizations, and it continues to innovate at a faster rate than anyone else.
2. Biggest upside and downside of AWS remains the decentralization. Net positive; see #1.
3. Second biggest downside remains complexity. 1/
4. AWS really needs someone at the VP level (like @adrianco has done for open source) to influence (but not dictate) easier, more-opinionated ways of using the services for the 80% use case (e.g., CRUD apps). ... 2/
@adrianco Many in the serverless and mobile groups are essentially doing this (way too many to name in even 3 tweets), but there is definitely not enough AWS-wide understanding within the services teams of what the future of efficient, scalable dev on AWS is and should be. 3/

The Amazon Braket announcement is an interesting one for #quantumcomputing on multiple levels.

First, Amazon is not providing a hosted service, but is serving more as an aggregator of technology approaches while working on being an application developer layer. #reInvent
This approach of supporting @dwavesys @IonQ_Inc & @rigetti are three different approaches: quantum annealing, trapped ion, and full stack on a quantum coprocessor, respectively.

These are very different approaches to #quantumcomputing.

#reInvent
Abstracting all of these approaches on Jupyter seems like a bit of a "figure it out yourself" approach rather than actively pushing the #quantumcomputing era forward.
