A BAD STORY

Driving out of Delhi, Madan noticed traffic was light on the highway. Though the #pandemic was receding, it’s impact was still discernable in many things. Like the almost empty roads. He was driving the new compact SUV 2/n
as their driver had returned to his hometown down south to wait out the pandemic. Madan would have been happier if his wife was not sitting beside him. He scowled at Anita’s side profile. 3/n

Okay. We gotta talk about astrology. I try very hard to just let people have their fun things, and even weird stuff they believe in that has absolutely ZERO basis in science or fact, and mostly just keep my nose down. BUT. An author I admire and follow is literally (Cont)
receiving death threats from some obsessive “fans” of a book she wrote a decade ago because the author does not know/remember the birthday of one of the characters in the books. These fans want to know that info so they can figure out the character’s charts and (Cont)
Basically say “Yep! I was right! She’s this sign and that explains her behavior as a character!” And when this author could not provide the info, these fans started creating burner and private accounts to harass and threaten her (Cont)

@vlaqq_ started this and I thought to jump on it.
I nominate @tireddbtw, @AmeenMujahyd, @ChukwuebukaIbe4, @Jameelahysf, @Raisa_therose, @RaliaDdainty1 to do same.

A thread of all the books I've read since the lockdown.

1. "Children of Virtue and Vengeance" by @tomi_adeyemi
For a sequel sceptic, I had expected something below the bar set by CBB, but I actually enjoyed it more. There was more action, more magic and such cliffhanger ending that only leaves you wanting more. Can't wait for book 3.
2. "Mine Boy" by Peter Abrahams
Anyone who knows my bookie life knows that I seldom read classics. They are too political for me. But "Mine Boy" for some reason is different. I reviewed it here: link.medium.com/aeVs9siTR7

A #thread about promoting scientific literature in graduate students, while having fun, and generating results. I hope this is helpful for some, and feel free to Retweet. #WSUEntomology #sciencetwitter #scicomm #scichat #phdlife #phdchat #GradSchool #readingcommunity #science
Many faculty are often frustrated that students seem to have a poor understanding of the literature, or are surprised when students don’t know the “big names" in their field. However, one must realize it is easy to get “pigeon-holed” while you are focusing on your MS/PhD
Reading groups are one way to address this issue – meet weekly or bi-weekly and read literature in a given field. However, too often reading groups are dominated by faculty/postdocs with more experience and students are afraid to speak up for fear of ridicule or embarrassment.
