Just before COVID, co-host @RKBtoo and I held a workshop. We identified unfunded oil & gas liabilities beyond decommissioning and land cleanup costs - over $1/4 Trillion.

Yesterday a guest on @RealTalkRJ referred to $300 billion in oil & gas liabilities, a figure rounded up FROM OTHER ESTIMATES of $260 billion. $40 billion’s a whack of dough so this caused some criticism.

WELLS: The reasonable estimate for decommissioning and land cleanup costs for conventional oil & gas wells and sites was pegged in April 2019 at 40-$70 Billion by ALDP. Regulator in house estimate is $62 billion as just disclosed by Auditor General.

Warning: Long Thread

There has been something I have been debating on sharing for quite some time now. I’ve been letting fear keep me from sharing this, but after seeing some people call out @ryanjespersen and how he keeps causing harm and keeps refusing to actually learn
(thanks @_MommaShip and @kimpagegluckie), I think it is time I have the courage to share as well.

So buckle up friends, here is a behind-the-scenes look at what it was like being the partner of @RealTalkRJ’s former technical producer.
To begin, I want to share the email that I sent Ryan on the anniversary of my mother’s death in June. I hoped that he’d be up for some Real Talk and would actually take the time to read it. He didn’t. Or, if he did, he did not respond to it.

I want to amplify concerns surrounding @ryanjespersen and want to address what happened recently on @RealTalkRJ as I also must take responsibility and own my part in supporting his platform in the past. (No longer.) Remove my segment on #RealTalkRJ please- see below.

This is a great🧵 on the train wreck of a 'discussion' on Real Talk that amounted to RJ silencing and demeaning @sarahhoyles

Here is what Sarah stated after RJ's attempt to save face:

THREAD: I missed yesterday's #RealTalkRJ so I went back to listen to the final 15 minutes to see what happened. I am going to reflect more on dynamics between Ryan and Sarah first. Ryan was interrupting and overtalking. This happens to me (and all women) SO. OFTEN.
Men jump in because they are excited, disagree, want to challenge, or just want the chance to speak again. It is so habitual they often don't realize they are doing it. Women also interrupt each other and talk over, but typically women are doing it to agree or add on.
When a man interrupts a woman to challenge her thinking, it feels confrontational and maybe even dangerous. The power imbalance becomes obvious and a lot of women shut down. Sarah didn't, but I'm guessing it took a lot of energy for her to remain composed. Especially live on air.

Thank you #RealTalkRJ for having me on today. Our new study on nursing retention is available here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…
Violence is a common experience among nurses. It shouldn't be, but it is. There are 'zero tolerance' signs in hospitals, but if someone has a liter of blood outside their body (dialysis), you aren't going to throw them out on the street.
These issues reflect endemic violence against women and a lack of respect for healthcare professionals. Nurses also face professional sanctions if they speak out (Doctors are essentially contractors and do not have the same restrictions)

Having travellers quarantine would basically shut down fly-in-fly-out workers at oil camps like those owned by CNRL, which have been hubs of covid spread.

Oil and Gas doesn’t love you back.

Voting Conservative has consequences.

#ableg #cdnpoli
I wonder how the current #CNRL outbreak compares to earlier outbreaks at #Cargill and ther meat processing plants?👇

#CNRL received $192,648,603.55 from the federal government in CEWS benefits in 2020, but would not keep their workers safe.

Where did all that money go?

👋🏼Hi, just your average Alberta teacher here. I’m going to go ahead and express some major frustration with the unacceptable job our @UCPCaucus and @jkenney is doing in regards to #COVID19AB. So read on or scroll by... #ableg #RealTalkRJ
When the presser started yesterday, I thought, “This is it. We’re going to take action.” Because let’s be real, things are bad. Very bad. You’ve seen the numbers. We’re watching idly by as variants become dominant. This is not a good place to be. @UCPCaucus #ableg #COVID19AB
But alas, @jkenney fell short of actual leadership like he’s done so many times before, implementing half measures to save livelihoods, not lives. When he lamented that we are reaching immunity in part b/c of the amount of people who have been infected? 🤦🏻‍♀️ #ableg #COVID19AB

A long thread...but I am so done. Today I live in a province where @UCPCaucus is more concerned with a Netflix film about #Bigfoot than the FACT that 1000 people in our largest city lost their jobs in O&G this week. #ableg #cdnpoli #RealTalkRJ
I live in a province where the @UCPCaucus thinks we believe that they have properly funded education and healthcare since they came into power despite classrooms bursting at the seams and a rural hospital fundraising for toilets. #ableg #cdnpoli
I live in a province where the @UCPCaucus thinks we support them taking from those on AISH while funding a $30 million/year joke of a O&G War Room and giving billions of dollars to rich corporations telling us it will "trickle down" to the rest of Albertans. #ableg #cdnpoli

Celebrating the UCP “Red Tape Awareness Week” by looking at the changes to EMS dispatch *in the middle of a global pandemic* that WILL cost lives.

"Tara Veer, the mayor of Red Deer, says the consolidated system means fire departments will not automatically be dispatched to an emergency call and that those crews are often the first to arrive, given the strain on the ambulance system. "

In 911 dispatch, seconds matter.

Thanks for tagging me, @BartMLL.

I basically never use FB, but I'm on my (very old) laptop today.

Let's get some screen shots.

'This whole thing STINKS' - Mayor Craig Snodgrass from the @TownOfHighRiver talking about the @UCPCaucus decision to recisnd the 1976 coal policy without consultation with #Albertans last night in council meeting.

He also discussed the lack of transparency, environmental concerns, royalties, etc. The council then unanimously voted to send a letter to @jkenney requesting the IMMEDIATE reinstatement of the coal policy and which was rescinded on June 1 , 2020.
Further more, requesting that the Government Of Alberta
begin public consultation with Indigenous groups, Environmental Groups and all Albertans on any proposed revisions or replacement of this policy.
THANK YOU Mayor and council of @TownOfHighRiver!
