Although I do have to say in regards to @MedfordMama quote, I have discussed multiple times why my story is a white narrative. I was conscious that it is a white story, & I worked hard to include Black voices as well as point out I knew it was framed from a white perspective.
I also have worked hard listening to more Black women & accepting critique. I also spent an entire semester reading Womanist theory & learning more, & will keep learning. I also am glad so many more people are reading Bettye Collier-Thomas & Clarice Martin bc of my book.
#RedLipTheology is grounded in the belief we are whole beings. Our spiritual and sexual selves are not at war with each other. We are whole. We are good creation.
#RedLipTheology was born out of my exhaustion due to Black men dominating conversations about Black women’s faith+agency and my frustration at the reality that the respectability within womanist theology didn’t really make room for sisters like me.
So #RedLipTheology became my response to believing that Black millennial women, who are intentional about transgressing boundaries for the sake of freedom, have the right to speak *now* and construct the theologies they need to see.
When folks ask me to promote projects/initiatives grounded in celibacy, I wonder if they've ever read anything I've written. LOL!

When I study the scriptures and look at the examples of leadership and holy boldness that we lift up as exemplar, I remain unconvinced that God deems sex before marriage or outside of covenant as sinful. There are too many examples where that behavior was blessed and sanctioned.
Most of our construction of sexual outside of marriage as sinful comes from Paul and I want us to have some very serious conversations about who Paul was. First and foremost, Paul was zealot. When have they ever made sense?! LOL
