As long as YPG remains a potent force in N. Syria, Turkey will not cease its attempts to undermine it. By “moralizing” the issue (evil Erdogan, etc...), most lose sight of this simple fact. Only way out is a second peace process between Turkey & PKK/YPG, which is now less likely.

What I am *really* curious about the case of American pastor Andrew Brunson is not whether he’ll be released or not (he’ll most likely be released). It’s whether Matt Damon or Tom Hanks will play him in the Oscar-nominated movie on his time in Turkey.
Seriously: AKP, with its incoherent & incompetent handling of pastor Brunson case, single-handedly set the stage for a second #MidnightExpress, a movie that sliced & diced the image of Turkey for decades. Difference this time: much worse, and blame will be put on AKP, not Turkey.
Irony to end all ironies: by putting the blame for economic troubles (defined merely in terms of US$-TR Lira exchange rate in Turkish context) on the US response to Pastor Brunson case, AKP set the stage for his release. Feeling the burn, even hard-core AKP-ists want him released
