Been pondering @GeorgeMonbiot 's #Regenesis and the reaction to it for months. The struggle is that it implicitly acknowledges and accepts a view of humanity and the rest of the biosphere as distinct from each other in the most fundamental way. 🧵1/10
Monbiot is making us acknowledge something obvious. We can wander through rewilded or sustainably managed land, but alone among species we can no longer all subsist on it. 2/10
Hard to hear, and it threatens the idea of #foodsovereignty, at least in the privileged north. 2.5/10

1/ This @guardian article by @GeorgeMonbiot on pasture-fed meat is not only dangerously divisive within a movement already struggling to save the planet from env. destruction, poverty and runaway climate chaos, but it's also disappointingly misinformed 🧵

2/ Production & consumption of animal products MUST be reduced, but there's no need to eliminate it completely. Livestock are important to nutrition security, fertility rotations, conservation grazing of wildflower meadows, not to mention the livelihoods of small farmers worldwide
3/ #FoodSovereignty deeply embodies equity and “fair share” meaning for everyone to have a right to food and the means to produce what they need to nourish their communities we have to find a balance between land for livestock and land for other uses...

Thank you @GeorgeMonbiot for #regenesis. One of those rare books I could subscribe to every word! Very deep and differentiated and systems thinking: the ingredients needed to get our #FoodSystems transformed. Some favorite quotes in this thread 1/8 #regenesis by George Monbiot
"Q: 'What do you grow?' A: 'Biodiversity' The vegetables are a by-product". Tolly talks about vegetables. That concept should be default for all livestock systems. And #EcosystemServices be the reason for farming. 2/8
"Reducing food waste, while essential, is one of the many solutions [...] whose potential has been greatly exaggerated." No food should go wasted! But reducing #FoodWaste alone doesn't solve the systemic and distributional failures of our food systems. 3/8

there's been a lot of development on state size mgmt in Ethereum.

it doesn't get a ton of attention, but it's
a vital problem to solve for mass adoption (thinking 10 years, 1B users forward)

in the following thread, I'll unpack the problem and current solution space
first, what's the problem?

the Ethereum 'state' consists of all of the data necessary to process a new transaction. you can think of it
as the application state of all smart contracts and all account balances

each node needs to store this data to verify the chain
as NFTs and DeFi explode, the size of this data is growing at an increasingly rapid pace:

etherscan.io/chartsync/chai…

if this continues, it'll become unfeasible for most to participate in verifying the network. this isn't the
decentralized future we want!
